This role offers the opportunity to build and lead a modern people function within a fast-growing, mission-driven organization.
You will partner directly with executive leadership to shape culture, talent strategy, and scalable HR practices that support business growth.
The position combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution across the full employee lifecycle, from workforce planning to employee experience.
You will design systems, processes, and programs that enable teams to perform at their best while maintaining a strong and inclusive workplace.
Working in a dynamic startup environment, you will have significant ownership and influence over organizational development and people operations.
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced HR leader who enjoys building from the ground up and making a measurable impact on company success.

Accountabilities:

As the Director of Human Resources, you will own the people strategy and HR operations while serving as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees. You will build scalable programs, strengthen organizational effectiveness, and create an employee experience that supports high performance and long-term growth.

  • Develop and execute the overall people strategy, including workforce planning, organizational design, talent management, and employee experience initiatives.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to executives and managers on leadership development, performance management, compensation, employee relations, and organizational decisions.
  • Build and improve compensation frameworks, salary structures, leveling systems, promotion criteria, equity practices, and incentive programs.
  • Design and lead performance management processes, including goal setting, feedback cycles, reviews, development plans, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Manage core HR operations, including benefits, payroll partnerships, HR systems, policies, compliance documentation, and employee records.
  • Partner with legal advisors on employee relations matters, investigations, accommodations, leave management, policy decisions, and employment-related issues.
  • Strengthen internal communication, employee engagement, recognition programs, and connection across a distributed workforce.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, systems, and organizational practices to support company scalability.
  • Balance employee needs with business priorities by providing thoughtful, data-driven recommendations.
  • Foster a high-performance culture built on accountability, collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced HR leader who combines strategic thinking with strong operational execution. You should have experience building people programs in fast-paced environments and the ability to navigate complex organizational challenges with sound judgment and empathy.

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in human resources, people operations, or organizational leadership.
  • 3+ years leading an HR or People function, ideally within a high-growth, startup, or rapidly evolving organization.
  • Experience supporting distributed or multi-location teams.
  • Proven ability to operate as both an executive partner and a hands-on HR practitioner.
  • Strong knowledge of employee lifecycle management, compensation, benefits, performance management, and organizational development.
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, emotional intelligence, and ability to manage confidential information.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to provide direct, thoughtful, and compassionate feedback.
  • Data-driven mindset with the ability to analyze organizational trends and make informed recommendations.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a changing environment.
  • Ability to challenge assumptions, identify issues, and recommend effective solutions.
  • Comfort working in an entrepreneurial environment where processes are built, improved, and adapted over time.
  • Passion for improving access to healthcare services and supporting mission-driven organizations.
  • Experience in healthcare, telehealth, technology, regulated industries, subscription businesses, or consumer services is an asset.
  • Experience implementing HRIS, payroll, benefits, applicant tracking, performance management, or engagement platforms is preferred.
Benefits:
  • Competitive base compensation ranging from $150,000–$180,000, plus equity and performance-based incentives.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
  • Flexible paid time off policy.
  • Remote-first work culture with flexible working arrangements.
  • Opportunity to build and influence a growing people function from the ground up.
  • Direct collaboration with executive leadership on company-wide initiatives.
  • Meaningful ownership over culture, talent strategy, and organizational development.
  • Opportunity to contribute to improving access to veterinary healthcare.
  • Dynamic environment with significant growth and career development opportunities.
