Posterity Group LLC is a veteran owned, service-disabled small business, headquartered in Rockville, MD, that specializes in federal government contracting and staffing. We are tasked with staffing the Veterans Health Administration with Remote Genetic Counselors. The Counselors is expected to do the following:

Genetic Counselors provides a broad range of independent genetic counseling services for Veterans and their families. Duties include providing education as well as consultation and collaboration. Proficiency for work standard include:

  • Communicate with patients, referring providers, colleagues.
  • Review records, both in CPRS and external, and conduct comprehensive literature review to identify and interpret the risks of an inherited disorder.
  • Obtain personal medical, lifestyle, environmental, and family histories to conduct risk assessment, including service-related exposures.
  • Educates patients regarding inheritance patterns, recurrence risks and disease prevention and screening options available to Veterans.
  • Identify best genetic test strategies to balance various needs of stakeholders (patient, VA pathology departments, referring provider) and order genetic testing.
  • Ensure test results are appropriately documented and communicated to patients and providers.
  • Counsel and identify resources within VHA to facilitate patient and family adaptation to the genetic information.
  • Document clinical activities in electronic medical record.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to provision of care.
  • Skill in oral and written communication to communicate with a variety of different audiences (patients, referring providers, colleagues)
  • Participate in development and dissemination of information regarding genetic counseling services offered by the VA as well as education materials for genetic conditions.
  • Genetic counselor shall obtain security clearance. Estimated time to complete. Week 1, obtain application information and forms to submit to Personnel Security Adjudication Center (PSAC); 2-3 weeks (respectively) to receive adjudication which is required to issue a Personal Identification Verification (PIV) card, which is required to access the VA network and computer systems.
Requirements:
  • Shall have a current license to practice medicine in the State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia where Veteran is residing.
  • Genetic counselors who have current, full and unrestricted licenses in one or more states, but who have, or ever had, a license restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action or denied upon application will not be considered for the purposes of this contract.
  • Genetic Counselors in states which do not offer genetic counselor licensure must practice directly under a board-certified VA medical (MD) geneticist.
  • Shall be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Clinical Genetics by the American Board of Genetics and Genomics and the American Board of Genetic Counseling
  • Be currently certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalency.
  • All continuing education courses required for maintaining certification must be kept up to date at all times.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience
