Position Summary:
The Compliance Coordinator is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance for 401(k) and Keogh retirement plans in Puerto Rico and or US. This position works closely with management and internal departments to help ensure that company policies, procedures, documentation, and business practices comply with applicable federal and Puerto Rico laws and regulatory requirements. They also assist in identifying potential compliance risks, documenting findings, following up on corrective actions, and promoting consistent compliance practices throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance & Regulatory Responsibilities
- Prepare and file Form 5500 and related schedules accurately and within required deadlines.
- Coordinate data collection from clients for annual compliance testing.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS, DOL, and Puerto Rico Department of Treasury requirements.
- Prepare and submit retirement plan amendments and Adoption Agreements filings with Puerto Rico Treasury (Hacienda) via SURI and/or other channels.
- Track regulatory deadlines and maintain compliance calendar.
- Assist with compliance testing (ADP/ACP, Top Heavy, Coverage, etc.).
- Coordinate audits with external auditors when applicable.
- Conduct annual plan reviews with sponsors when required.
- Prepare compliance memos and client advisory communications.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in compliance, audit support, regulatory reporting or related role.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Keogh plans
- Form 5500 preparation
- ERISA fundamentals
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Fully bilingual (Spanish & English – written and verbal).
Preferred
- Experience with compliance testing software.
- Knowledge of Puerto Rico retirement plan regulations.
- Professional certifications (QKA, QPA) a plus but not required.
- Experience using SURI (Puerto Rico Treasury system).
- Strong knowledge of 401(k) plans
- Experience interacting with recordkeepers strongly preferred.
