POSITION OVERVIEW
The Ring Roller Operator is responsible for overseeing the Wagner 140 radial-axial ring rolling mill to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective production. This highly technical role involves expanding forged blanks into seamless rolled rings by hitting precise outside diameter (OD), inside diameter (ID), and height specifications.
The Operator will work closely with plant leadership to drive operational excellence, improve productivity, and maintain high standards of safety and quality.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Mill Operations & Process Control
- Control the Wagner 140 ring mill, simultaneously managing the main roll, mandrel, and axial cones to expand the ring.
- Interface with the machine's HMI and automated systems, adjusting rolling curves and recipe parameters.
- Monitor operational performance and implement improvements to increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
2. Setup & Dimensional Accuracy
- Continuously monitor growth during the rolling cycle using measurement systems, adjusting rolling pressure and speed to hit exact OD, ID, and height tolerances.
- Perform rapid setups by changing out main rolls, mandrels, and guide arms based on the specific ring profile.
- Recognize and correct defects such as dishing, ovality, or surface tearing during the rolling process.
3. Safety & Compliance
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to OSHA and company safety policies.
- Maintain a positive and accountable work environment.
- Provide regular operational updates and sign off on final quality documentation for the work orders.
4. Continuous Improvement & Maintenance
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
- Ensure 5s implementation and maintaining them.
- Coordinate with maintenance team to ensure equipment reliability and preventive maintenance execution.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
- Minimum 5 years of advanced machine operation or plant operations experience.
- Experience in metal working, forging, industrial manufacturing, or similar environment preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Hands-on operational management experience in a small or mid-size plant environment.
- Solid understanding of production processes, maintenance, and safety practices.
- Experienced with HMI controls and machine automation interfaces.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Bilingual (English/Korean or English/Spanish) is a plus but not required.
