Job Description
About Housing Connector
Housing Connector is a nonprofit organization working to reduce barriers to housing access and increase housing stability for individuals and families. We partner with property owners, housing providers, and community-based organizations to make it easier for people facing barriers to secure and maintain stable housing.
Through strong cross-sector partnerships, clear processes, and technology-enabled tools, we help communities connect people to housing more quickly and sustainably. Our work is rooted in collaboration, accountability, and a belief that systems work better when partners are aligned around shared outcomes.
Position Summary
Housing Connector is seeking a Senior Multimedia Storyteller to find, craft, capture, and tell the stories that demonstrate who we are, how our work is changing housing access, why our approach matters, and the local, national, and person level impact this work is generating in communities and across the country. Reporting to the VP of Investments & Partnerships, this role will work across Housing Connector to bring these stories to life for broad audiences.
We are committed to telling stories that reflect the richness and diversity of human experience and that simplify the complex systems we are working within for broad audiences. You will ensure that each narrative is represented with accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and respect for the storyteller’s own words and meaning. We value storytellers who approach their craft with humility, recognizing that the story belongs to the person who lived it, and their role is to be a faithful steward of their truth.
In this role, you will help build a culture where storytelling is embraced as an essential organizational practice across philanthropy, marketing and communications, recruitment, partnerships, program delivery, data collection and product development, and executive communications, not isolated as a marketing function.
The Multimedia Storyteller will work across Housing Connector teams and markets to create original written and multimedia content that builds awareness, strengthens partnerships, attracts funding, champions, and advocates, educates, supports expansion, and establishes Housing Connector as a credible voice on housing access and infrastructure.
What You’ll Own
This is an organization-wide role that works closely with Development, market teams, Product, Prevention, and organizational leadership to understand the work and bring Housing Connector's stories and impact to life through writing, multimedia, and other creative content.
Find and Tell Housing Connector's Stories
- Identify, develop, and produce compelling stories about renters, partners, communities, growth and scale, and the impact of our work.
- Build relationships across teams and markets to stay close to the work and continuously uncover stories worth telling.
- Conduct interviews and gather the information, perspectives, data, and supporting materials needed to tell stories accurately and authentically.
- Translate complex programs, data, outcomes, and ideas into clear, accessible narratives.
- We believe every story is a living thread in the fabric of our shared humanity. As our Storyteller, you will hold space for all voices, honoring each person’s truth with care, dignity, and authenticity. Through your work, you will help amplify underrepresented voices, and create narratives that inspire empathy, compassion, connection, understanding, and inspire ACTION.
Create Original Written and Multimedia Content
- Write high-quality content across formats, including impact stories, organizational materials, reports, funder and partner communications, and executive thought leadership.
- Create multimedia storytelling assets using professional expertise in at least one creative discipline, such as video, photography, documentary storytelling, design, or writing.
- Lead multi-faceted storytelling projects and coordinate external creative resources when specialized expertise is needed.
Build Housing Connector's Storytelling Library
- Build and maintain a reusable library of written, visual, and multimedia stories and assets from across Housing Connector's markets.
- Create storytelling assets that support fundraising, partnerships, expansion, impact reporting, presentations, training, and other organizational priorities.
- Partner with teams across Housing Connector to develop original storytelling and educational content, including content for the Housing Connector Hub.
- Manage storytelling and content production projects within established budgets, coordinating internal resources and external creative support as needed.
Bring Our Stories Into the World
- Create and prepare original storytelling content and assets for use across social media, email, website, impact reports, events, and other external channels, and support distribution as needed.
- Adapt stories and assets for different audiences, formats, and channels while maintaining the integrity of the story and Housing Connector's voice.
- Ensure storytelling content is polished, accurate, and brand-aligned, while helping maintain consistent brand standards across Housing Connector's external-facing content and materials.
- Track and evaluate engagement and external communications performance, using insights and feedback to strengthen future storytelling and content.
What Success Looks Like
Within the first year, you will have:
- Built a consistent pipeline and accessible library of compelling written, visual, and multimedia stories that demonstrate Housing Connector’s work and impact.
