Job Description

Senior Manager, Learning from Demonstration

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Manager, Learning from Demonstration based in United States.

The Senior Manager, Learning from Demonstration will lead advanced AI and robotics research focused on turning emerging ideas into practical capabilities for humanoid robots. You’ll bridge cutting-edge machine learning research with real-world robotic applications and help shape the product roadmap over a one- to two-year horizon. The role combines technical leadership, hands-on research direction, and people management within a high-performing innovation organization. You’ll guide work across learning from demonstration, real-time planning, adaptive motor control, and human-robot interaction. You’ll also help accelerate the use of teleoperation, synthetic data, and fleet learning to improve robot performance and reliability. This is an opportunity to build new methodologies where established playbooks do not yet exist while maintaining a strong focus on experimentation, rigor, and delivery. The role is fully remote, with hybrid options available near select U.S. offices.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the lifecycle of AI and robotics innovation projects, from research concepts and technical whiteboarding through proof-of-concept deployment on humanoid robotic platforms.
  • Own the success and delivery of an AI innovation portfolio, setting high standards for technical quality, execution, accountability, and measurable outcomes.
  • Direct research into advanced AI solutions for complex robotics challenges, including learning from demonstration, real-time planning, human-robot interaction, adaptive motor control, computer vision, and reinforcement learning.
  • Accelerate data-driven robotics development by combining teleoperation, synthetic data, and fleet learning to improve system capabilities, reliability, and performance.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware and robot software teams to ensure next-generation sensing and computing capabilities are aligned with evolving AI architectures.
  • Translate emerging AI and robotics research into practical solutions that help reduce technical risk and inform the product roadmap over a one- to two-year horizon.
  • Lead, develop, and support a high-performing team of researchers and engineers through coaching, performance management, individualized development plans, and thoughtful hiring.
  • Advocate for team needs and represent the group effectively with senior leadership while building a culture of ownership, collaboration, rigorous experimentation, and continuous learning.
  • Encourage productive experimentation and rapid iteration, creating an environment where teams can learn from unsuccessful approaches and use those lessons to advance research.
  • Contribute to broader technical strategy, innovation initiatives, and cross-functional programs across the organization.
Requirements:
  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in AI/ML, robotics, autonomous systems, or a related discipline, including at least 3 years of people-management experience.
  • Demonstrated success developing and deploying real-time AI solutions for robotics, autonomous systems, or other mission-critical applications.
  • Strong technical expertise across core AI domains such as computer vision, reinforcement learning, and large language models applied to robotics.
  • Experience leading and scaling high-performing engineering or research teams, with a proven ability to coach talent, set direction, and drive accountability.
  • Practical experience deploying machine-learning models on resource-constrained edge devices, including the ability to balance inference latency, power consumption, and thermal constraints.
  • Strong research and problem-solving skills, with the ability to tackle ambiguous technical challenges and develop new approaches where established methodologies may not exist.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear priorities and decisions for diverse stakeholders.
  • A strong ownership mindset, intellectual curiosity, and enthusiasm for experimentation, innovation, and applying emerging AI techniques to physical-world systems.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States is required.
Benefits:
  • Base salary range of $268,000–$364,000 USD, with final compensation determined by factors including location, relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Competitive total rewards package for full-time employees.
  • 401(k) plan with a 6% company match.
  • Company stock options.
  • 100% company-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees.
  • Company-paid short- and long-term disability insurance.
  • Benefits eligibility beginning on the first day of employment.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and well-being support.
  • Flexible, unlimited PTO and 12 company holidays, including a winter shutdown, for exempt employees.
  • Paid sick leave and vacation benefits for non-exempt employees.
  • Generous paid parental leave.
  • Flexible work arrangements with a fully remote setup and hybrid options near select U.S. offices.
  • Professional development and tuition reimbursement programs.
  • Annual discretionary bonus opportunities for eligible roles.
  • Relocation assistance for eligible positions.
  • Catered lunches and healthy snacks at select office locations.
  • A collaborative environment focused on innovation, experimentation, learning, and professional growth.
  • All roles are U.S.-based and require current authorization to work in the United States.
