GENERAL SUMMARY
-
The Manager, Corporate Communications leads the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of internal communications and employee engagement initiatives across the health system. This role manages a team of communications professionals and oversees internal employee engagement platforms and technologies to ensure consistent, timely, and effective communication aligned with CHKD’s mission, brand, and strategic priorities. The manager partners closely with Human Resources, senior leadership, and operational leaders to support workforce engagement, change management, and organizational alignment. Reports to departmental leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops and executes enterprise communications strategies and communication plans that support CHKD's mission, strategic priorities, organizational initiatives, workforce engagement, and brand reputation.

Serves as a trusted communications advisor to organizational leaders, physicians, and designated spokespersons, providing strategic guidance on messaging, stakeholder engagement, executive communications, media relations, reputation management, public appearances, and organizational change management.

Leads the governance, optimization, and performance of communication channels and platforms, including the organizational intranet, while establishing communication standards, editorial guidelines, approval processes, and governance practices that promote consistency, brand alignment, and effective message prioritization.

Leads communications for organizational change, critical incidents, crisis response, emergency situations, and other sensitive issues affecting employees, patients, families, and community stakeholders.

Leads media relations efforts, including cultivating media relationships, managing inquiries, developing story opportunities, and promoting CHKD's accomplishments, expertise, thought leadership, and community impact.

Develops and oversees internal and external communication materials and collaborates with organizational partners to ensure coordinated messaging across earned, owned, shared, and internal communication channels.

Monitors communication effectiveness, employee engagement, media coverage, stakeholder feedback, and industry trends to identify opportunities that strengthen organizational alignment, employee engagement, brand reputation, community awareness, and stakeholder trust.

Manages communications staff and provides leadership, coaching, workload prioritization, performance management, and professional development.

Oversees communications project planning, resource allocation, and prioritization to ensure timely execution and alignment with organizational objectives.

Monitors emerging communications technologies, trends, and best practices and recommends innovations that enhance organizational effectiveness and stakeholder engagement.

Leads, manages, coaches, and trains a team or department, provides guidance, support, and mentors to ensure optimal performance and productivity.

Oversees the recruitment, hiring, team/department orientation, performance appraisals and disciplinary actions including up to termination processes for a team or department.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Required Education and Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Communications, Marketing or relevant field of study.

Eight to ten years of progressively responsible experience in Communications or a related field.
-
Proven experience in dealing with high-level executives and a demonstrated ability to counsel senior management.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-
Exceptional written communication skills; including proven knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and AP Style with strong attention to detail.
-
Demonstrated familiarity with a wide variety of communication platforms and technology.
-
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, a sense of diplomacy, sound political judgment, flexibility, and the ability to work as part of an integrated team are required.

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and maturity.
-
Demonstrated ability to manage time and responsibilities while handling multiple projects under pressure in a fast paced, fluid environment is required.

Strong proficiency and technical aptitude with the use of Adobe Acrobat and MS Office products, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Word.
