Job Summary
The Technical Weekend Machinist is a highly skilled machining specialist responsible for advanced machine operation, process troubleshooting, precision adjustments, and quality assurance during weekend shifts. This role supports critical production requirements by applying strong technical judgment, interpreting complex engineering documentation, and ensuring that machining processes run reliably and efficiently. The position requires deep machining knowledge, strong diagnostic capability, and the ability to work independently while supporting cross-functional needs.
Essential Responsibilities
- Operate CNC and manual machining equipment across multiple platforms (e.g., mills, lathes, multi-axis, specialty equipment)
- Perform advanced program offsets, tooling corrections, and process adjustments to maintain part accuracy
- Diagnose and resolve machining challenges related to tooling performance, material behavior, fixturing stability, and machine condition
- Conduct high-precision first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using advanced metrology tools
- Analyze and interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, work instructions, and specifications
- Monitor machining performance, identify process deviations, and escalate issues impacting dimensional accuracy or production flow
- Document production data, inspection results, and shift findings with a high degree of accuracy and clarity
- Identify and recommend improvements for machining reliability, cycle-time efficiency, scrap reduction, and workflow consistency
- Provide technical feedback to Production, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance to ensure process alignment across shifts
- Maintain exceptional standards of machine care, shop organization, and work-area cleanliness
- Uphold and promote strict adherence to all safety protocols and company policies
