Description:

This document establishes and describes the duties, authority, and responsibility of a Machine Operator at Novation Industries. Ultimately to comply with directives of the reporting manager any and all requests that do not discriminate, create unsafe practices or contradict state and federal labor laws.

Essential Duties and Accountability

1.1. Completes assigned production tasks at one or more workstations as assigned by the Lead Operator

1.2. All tasks meet the designated quality and throughput requirements of all “Basic and Medium” difficulty Machine Operator jobs.

1.3. Complies with the documented work instructions, or control plans associated with each job

1.4. Complies with all safety, housekeeping, and time & attendance requirements

Responsibilities

2.1. Completes assigned production tasks at one or more workstations as assigned by the Lead Operator

2.1.1. Must work at the work stations assigned by the Lead Operator. The Machine Operator does not get to decide which work stations they will work at.

2.1.2. When working at multiple workstations, consideration is to be given as to the amount of time between shifting workstations such as to avoid efficiency or quality issues.

2.1.3. Completes all forms in a timely and accurate manner as instructed by the Lead Operator or through training.

2.2. All tasks meet the designated quality and throughput requirements of all “Basic and Medium” difficulty Machine Operator jobs.

2.2.1. Tasks must be completed within the time allotted on the Bill of Material, or Work Center Pulse.

2.2.2. Tasks must be completed with a defect free manner, and defects, or quality issues, can only occur on an occasional basis.

2.2.3. When quality issues are observed, they are to be set aside and brought to the attention of the Lead Operator. They Blue, Yellow, Red bins are to be used to segregate suspect quality items.

2.3. Complies with the documented work instructions, or control plans associated with each job.

2.3.1. Obtain training on each job utilizing the job specific work instructions or control plan, and signs training record.

2.3.2. Reviews work instructions, control plans and other visual aids prior to starting tasks.

2.3.3. Completes any Machine Operator based inspection activities defined in the work instructions or control plan.

2.4. Complies with all safety, housekeeping, and time & attendance requirements

2.4.1. Wears safety glasses at all times when on the production floor, and wears other personal protective equipment as instructed by the Lead Operator or as defined in the work instruction or control plan.

2.4.2. Keeps work area free of safety hazards, and notifies Lead Operator of any safety concerns.

2.4.3. Keeps work station clean and organized, including cleaning at the end of the shift.

2.4.4. Complies with the company time and attendance policy.

2.5. Will perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

Qualifications

3.1. To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

3.2. Must be capable of performing the “Machine Operator” based tasks at an intermediate level or better, and on a variety of workstations.

3.3. Must be capable of learning basic workstation “Operator” tool usage.

3.4. Must have the ability to communicate in a detailed manner and in accordance with our Core Values.

3.5. Must have good color recognition, (not color blind)

Education/Experience

4.1. High school diploma or GED equivalent is highly desired

4.2. Experience in a manufacturing or injection molding environment is a plus

4.3. Capable of using a calculator and the necessary math skills to tabulate quantities.

Language/Communication Skills

5.1. Must be capable of understanding basic job instructions in both verbal and written form.

5.2. Must be able to understand and fill out production related forms, such as reject sheets and work center pulse sheets, and understand, or fill out, carton labels.

5.3. If English is not the first language, must be able to understand enough English to take instruction during emergency situations, and take basic instruction on job tasks with the addition of visual communications.

Physical Demands

6.1. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job description.

6.2. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is commonly required to stand, walk or sit, and perform repetitive tasks for long intervals.

6.2.1. Required to lift boxes on a regular basis. The weight of the boxes varies, but can be as much as 25 – 30 pounds.

6.2.2. When assigned to multiple workstations, it may be necessary to walk distances of up to 200 feet on a regular basis.

6.2.3. Required to perform repetitive tasks, such as sorting, hand assembly, or assembly through the use of mechanical aids.

6.3. Must be capable of learning and using the variety of hand tools and mechanical assembly tools.

6.4. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to see things both near and far away, be able to identify color, and able to adjust focus.

6.5. Will be required to spend extended periods of time on the floor in the production area.

Work Environment

7.1. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

7.2. As a custom manufacturer, the job content will constantly change and require the employee to adapt to those changes.

7.3. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or equipment.

7.4. The noise level in the work environment is safe but can be loud in the production area.

Reporting Relationship and Reports

8.1. The Machine Operators report to the Lead Operators

Conduct and Attire

9.1. All company employees are expected to comply with and embrace the company Core Values and support the Quality Policy.

9.2. All company employees are required to wear proper departmental work attire as defined in the company dress code and conduct themselves in a courteous manner with all fellow employees.

9.3. Professionalism and tact are required when interacting with other employees. Physical contact with other employees is to be avoided as it could be construed as harassment.

Pre-Employment Requirements

10.1. All applicants are required to take a drug screen test prior to employment.
