Job Description
The Masonry Foreman leads field crews to deliver high-quality masonry work on schedule and within budget while maintaining strict safety compliance. This hands-on leadership role requires strong technical masonry skills, blueprint proficiency, effective crew management, and excellent communication with project managers, clients, and subcontractors. The Foreman serves as the primary point of accountability for daily field operations, safety, productivity and quality control on assigned projects.
Key Responsibilities
Crew Leadership & Management
• Lead and supervise masons, laborers, apprentices, and specialty subcontractors
• Assign daily tasks based on project priorities, crew capabilities, and schedules
• Train and mentor apprentices and less experienced team members
• Monitor productivity and performance, addressing issues promptly
• Conduct daily crew briefings on work plans, safety, and expectations
Project Coordination & Execution
• Interpret drawings, specifications, and shop drawings
• Perform accurate layout of walls, columns, arches, and specialty features
• Coordinate material deliveries and equipment with warehouse and project management
• Identify and communicate scope changes and potential issues to project managers
• Manage relationships with specialty subcontractors
Quality Control & Workmanship
• Maintain highest masonry craftsmanship standards across all work
• Conduct ongoing inspections to ensure specification compliance
• Verify proper jointing, alignment, plumb, and level
• Address quality issues immediately and coordinate with inspectors on punch lists
Safety Management & Compliance
• Enforce company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and site-specific safety plans
• Conduct daily safety inspections and lead toolbox talks
• Ensure proper PPE use and maintain safe working conditions
• Stop work for unsafe conditions and investigate incidents
• Coordinate with Safety Operations Manager on training and compliance
Documentation & Communication
• Complete daily reports in Raken documenting work, hours, materials, and progress
• Document scope changes, delays, and weather impacts with photos
• Communicate effectively with project managers, superintendents, and clients
• Submit timely material and equipment requests
Budget & Schedule Management
• Monitor labor productivity and material usage against budgets
• Alert management to potential overruns or delays early
• Minimize material waste through efficient planning
Required Qualifications
Experience & Skills
• Minimum 5 years as journeyman mason in commercial construction
• Minimum 3 years in supervisory/foreman role leading masonry crews
• Expert proficiency reading blueprints, specifications, and shop drawings
• Proven ability performing accurate layout for complex masonry work
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Proficient in written and verbal English
Technical Competencies
• Mastery of brick bonds (running, common, Flemish, English)
• Proficiency in corners, arches, corbels, and specialty features
• Knowledge of mortar types, mixing ratios, and grouting procedures
• Experience with tube, frame, and Hydro Mobile scaffolding systems
Technology & Communication Skills
• Proficient with iPad/tablet for daily reporting in Raken or similar software
• Ability to take and upload photos for documentation and progress tracking
• Competent reading and writing emails for professional communication
• Basic smartphone skills for calls, texts, and photo sharing
Certifications & Licenses
• OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety certification required
• First Aid/CPR certification required
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
• Ability to pass background check and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desirable
• EM-385 certification
• Forklift and aerial lift certifications
• Experience with federal, municipal, or institutional projects
Physical Requirements
• Lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly
• Work in various weather conditions
• Climb ladders and scaffolding up to 40+ feet
• Wear required PPE for extended periods

• Project completion on or ahead of schedule
• Zero lost-time safety incidents
• Quality ratings of 95% or higher on inspections
