Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, braking systems, and electrical components on cranes, trucks, and other heavy equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance and safety inspections to ensure reliability and compliance with DOT and OSHA standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical or hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools, manuals, and electronic testing equipment.
- Conduct field repairs and service calls to support crews and minimize equipment downtime.
- Maintain accurate service logs, repair records, and parts usage reports.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules with supervisors, equipment operators, and field managers to minimize delays.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with company safety procedures.
- Assist with crane and heavy equipment inspection, setup, and teardown as needed.
- Provide guidance to other maintenance personnel when required.

Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle, reach, or operate tools, controls, and equipment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs independently and up to 100 lbs with assistance.
- Occasionally required to lift materials or equipment overhead.
- Must be able to climb onto trailers or trucks to secure and move equipment.
- Frequent exposure to vibration, moving mechanical parts, and elevated work surfaces.
- Requires good vision (close, distance, color, depth perception, and focus adjustment) and clear hearing for communication and safety awareness.
Work Environment
- Combination of shop and field environments with exposure to:
- Fumes, airborne particles, dust, and non-weather-related heat
- Moderate to loud noise levels depending on equipment in use
- Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals
- Outdoor weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and wind
- May involve working at heights or in confined spaces during inspection or repair.
- Must be available for 40+ hours per week, with flexibility for extended hours or travel based on project demands.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; completion of a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic program preferred.
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic, ideally in construction, crane service, or industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and powertrains.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools, computerized testing equipment, and interpreting technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic schematics.
- Experience working with cranes, boom trucks, forklifts, generators, and welding equipment.
- Welding and light fabrication experience a plus.
- Valid driver’s license required; Class A CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Strong attention to detail, safety-focused mindset, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities; capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs and working in various environmental conditions.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to field job sites.
