This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a z/OS Network Systems Administrator based in India.
This is a fully remote opportunity supporting critical enterprise mainframe and network environments.
You will take ownership of IBM z/OS networking, connectivity, messaging, and operational support.
The role combines hands-on administration with complex troubleshooting across core mainframe technologies.
You will help maintain reliable connections between z/OS and systems such as MQ, DB2, CICS, and middleware.
Automation, monitoring, reporting, and operational improvements will be important parts of your work.
You will collaborate closely with enterprise network and security teams on infrastructure initiatives and modernization.
This role is well suited to an experienced mainframe networking professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges.
- Provide hands-on administration, troubleshooting, and operational support for IBM z/OS Communication Server, including VTAM, TCP/IP, TN3270, FTP, Policy Agent, and SMTP.
- Manage day-to-day activities within the z/OS mainframe environment using TSO, ISPF, JCL, VSAM, and catalog management.
- Execute and interpret z/OS and JES2 operator commands to support network and system operations.
- Develop and maintain automation and operational tools using TSO/REXX, TSO/CLIST, or SAS.
- Configure and troubleshoot mainframe connectivity for MQ, DB2, CICS, and related middleware platforms.
- Support end-to-end file transfer, printing, email, and messaging infrastructure.
- Build and maintain monitoring, reporting, troubleshooting, and auditing tools for network operations.
- Partner with enterprise network services and security teams on network design, upgrades, implementations, testing, and verification.
- Investigate complex infrastructure and connectivity issues and contribute to operational improvements and modernization initiatives.
- Support reliable production operations and collaborate with application teams on connectivity requirements and network-related issues when needed.
- Hands-on experience administering and supporting IBM z/OS Communication Server in an enterprise environment.
- Strong knowledge of VTAM, TCP/IP, TN3270, FTP, Policy Agent, and SMTP.
- Solid practical experience working with z/OS mainframe systems and related operational processes.
- Proficiency with TSO, ISPF, JCL, VSAM, and z/OS catalog management.
- Experience using z/OS and JES2 operator commands for system and network operations.
- Programming or scripting experience with REXX, CLIST, or SAS, with an ability to automate operational tasks.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting connectivity involving MQ, DB2, CICS, and other middleware technologies.
- Experience supporting file transmission, printing, email, and messaging environments.
- Ability to develop or maintain network monitoring, reporting, troubleshooting, and operational tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, particularly when diagnosing complex mainframe connectivity issues.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with network, security, infrastructure, and application teams.
- A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred but equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- Experience with Broadcom/CA NetMaster and NCL programming, PKWARE PKZip, IBM Sterling Connect:Direct, Secure Proxy technologies, or disaster recovery testing is an advantage.
- Knowledge of AI concepts, methodologies, and tools relevant to mainframe or network operations is a plus.
- Fully remote position for candidates based in India.
