Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 per year (depending on qualifications and readiness for the role)

Position Summary

The Director of Advancement will lead efforts to strengthen and diversify Centro’s philanthropic support, with particular emphasis on individual giving, major donors, corporate partnerships and sponsorships, institutional funding, and donor stewardship.

This position will build the systems, relationships, and culture necessary for a sustainable advancement program while working closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to expand Centro’s fundraising capacity.

The Director of Advancement will supervise the Grant Writer and the Development & Communications Specialist. These team members will support execution of grants, donor communications, storytelling, campaigns, and related advancement activities, while the Director provides strategy, leadership, relationship management, supervision, and accountability.

Job Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy & Revenue Growth

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with Centro’s mission, strategic priorities, and long-term financial sustainability.
  • Establish annual fundraising goals, revenue projections, campaign strategies, and measurable performance indicators.
  • Grow and diversify contributed revenue across individual giving, major gifts, institutional funding, corporate support, sponsorships, campaigns, and events.
  • Identify new philanthropic opportunities and build relationships that deepen long-term investment in Centro’s mission.
  • Develop strong fundraising systems, processes, and infrastructure that support sustainable growth and accountability.
  • Use fundraising data and performance analysis to guide strategy and foster an organization-wide culture of philanthropy, stewardship, and shared responsibility.
  • Foster a culture of philanthropy across Centro in which fundraising is understood as relationship-building, shared responsibility, and an extension of the organization’s mission and community impact.

Individual Giving & Major Donors

  • Build and lead Centro’s individual giving and major donor program.
  • Develop strategies for donor acquisition, retention, renewal, upgrading, and recurring giving.
  • Establish measurable annual goals for individual giving and implement strategies that result in year-over-year growth in individual donor revenue.
  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donor prospects.
  • Build and actively manage a major-gift pipeline.
  • Partner closely with the Executive Director on major donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and relationship management.
  • Develop meaningful donor experiences, appeals, campaigns, recognition opportunities, and stewardship strategies.
  • Use data, impact, and culturally grounded storytelling to deepen donor relationships and inspire philanthropic investment.

Corporate Partnerships, Sponsorships & Events

  • Expand corporate fundraising by developing relationships with businesses, corporate foundations, and community partners.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate sponsors and partners.
  • Develop sponsorship opportunities that create meaningful value for Centro, its community, and corporate partners.
  • Lead fundraising strategy for events and other revenue-generating initiatives, with staff supporting planning and execution.
  • Identify opportunities for corporate giving, employee engagement, sponsorship activation, and strategic partnership development.

Grants & Institutional Funding

  • Supervise and support the Grant Manager/Writer, who will lead day-to-day grant development, submission, tracking, and reporting.
  • Provide strategic direction for institutional fundraising and ensure grant opportunities align with Centro’s priorities and funding strategy.
  • Review major proposals, reports, budgets, narratives, and supporting materials for strategic positioning and quality.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with foundations, corporate funders, government entities, and other institutional partners.
  • Work with programs, finance, and organizational leadership to ensure strong coordination around grant development, reporting, compliance, and funder relationships.
  • Identify and cultivate new institutional funding opportunities while strengthening relationships with existing funders.

Board Fundraising Capacity & Culture of Philanthropy

  • Partner with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to strengthen Centro’s fundraising capacity.
  • Equip Board members to serve effectively as ambassadors, connectors, cultivators, and supporters of Centro’s fundraising efforts.
  • Provide Board members with appropriate tools, information, coaching, and opportunities to participate in donor cultivation and stewardship.
  • Partner with the Executive Director and Board leadership to establish and support meaningful Board fundraising participation, including annual Board giving, donor stewardship, relationship cultivation, and individual and collective fundraising goals.
  • Help create an organization-wide culture in which fundraising is understood as relationship building and an extension of Centro’s mission and community impact.

Advancement Communications & Storytelling

  • Provide strategic direction for advancement communications and donor-centered storytelling.
  • Supervise and collaborate with the Development & Communications Specialist on donor communications, fundraising campaigns, appeals, newsletters, sponsorship materials, impact storytelling, and advancement-related content.
  • Ensure fundraising communications reflect Centro’s mission, values, dignity, cultural pride, and community-centered approach.
  • Use storytelling strategically to strengthen donor engagement, institutional relationships, corporate partnerships, and fundraising campaigns.
  • Partner with program and impact staff to integrate quantitative outcomes, qualitative storytelling, community voice, and intergenerational impact into fundraising materials, donor communications, proposals, and cases for support.
  • Coordinate with organizational leadership on communications that directly support fundraising and advancement priorities.

Development Operations & Systems

  • Oversee Centro’s donor database, fundraising tracking, stewardship processes, acknowledgments, and advancement reporting.
  • Establish and maintain systems for donor moves management, relationship tracking, fundraising analytics, and pipeline development.
  • Ensure accurate and timely fundraising data and reporting.
  • Develop dashboards and reports to monitor fundraising performance and progress toward annual goals.
  • Develop and monitor the advancement budget and contributed-revenue projections.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable fundraising regulations, grant requirements, organizational policies, and ethical fundraising practices.
  • Continuously strengthen advancement systems, workflows, accountability, and coordination.

Team Leadership

  • Directly supervise the Grant Manager/Writer and Development & Communications Specialist.
  • Establish clear roles, priorities, goals, and accountability for advancement team members.
  • Provide coaching, professional development, and strategic guidance to build a strong and collaborative advancement team.
  • Ensure staff responsibilities are appropriately differentiated between strategic leadership and day-to-day execution.
  • Create sustainable systems that allow the advancement function to grow with the organization.

Other Responsibilities

  • Represent Centro with donors, funders, corporate partners, sponsors, and other philanthropic stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively across departments to identify funding priorities, impact stories, community needs, and opportunities for philanthropic investment.
  • Support organizational and fundraising events, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Perform other responsibilities related to advancement and organizational leadership as assigned by the Executive Director.
Requirements:

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, development, sales, or business development, including responsibility for generating revenue.
  • Experience building and managing donor or partner relationships, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Experience with individual giving and/or major gifts.
  • Experience supervising staff and leading a team or cross-functional work.
  • Ability to think strategically while also building the systems, processes, and accountability needed to execute effectively.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple relationships, priorities, and deadlines with professionalism, adaptability, and sound judgment.
  • Bilingual Spanish and English required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work authentically and effectively with Latine communities, with a strong commitment to Centro’s mission and values.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Progressively responsible experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, philanthropy, or a closely related field.
  • Experience developing or implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies and working toward measurable revenue goals.
  • Experience securing corporate sponsorships, institutional funding, or other significant philanthropic investments.
  • Experience working with donor management or CRM systems and using data to inform fundraising strategy.
  • Strong cultural competence and understanding of the social, cultural, and systemic barriers affecting immigrant and historically underserved communities.
  • Experience with capital campaigns and fundraising events.
