About the Role:
The Boilermaker plays a critical role in the construction, maintenance, and repair of boilers, tanks, and closed vats that hold liquids and gases. This position requires precision and expertise in assembling, installing, and maintaining heavy metal structures and piping systems, often within industrial settings such as refineries. The successful candidate will ensure that all installations meet safety and quality standards, contributing to the operational efficiency and safety of the facility. Working closely with other tradespeople, the Boilermaker will interpret blueprints and technical drawings to fabricate and fit components accurately. Ultimately, this role is essential for maintaining the integrity and functionality of vital industrial equipment, supporting continuous production processes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a Boilermaker or in a similar industrial trade role.
- Proficiency in pipe fitting, welding, and use of hand tools.
- Knowledge of safety protocols including fall protection and respiratory protection.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy weights and operate heavy equipment safely.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification or apprenticeship completion in boiler making or pipe fitting.
- Experience working in refinery or heavy industrial environments.
- Familiarity with reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
- Additional safety certifications such as OSHA 10 or 30-hour training.
- Experience with gasket installation and maintenance.
Responsibilities:
- Assemble, install, and repair boilers, tanks, and pressure vessels according to specifications and safety standards.
- Perform pipe fitting tasks including cutting, threading, and welding pipes to connect systems within refineries or industrial plants.
- Inspect and compare sizes and dimensions of components to ensure proper fit and function before installation.
- Utilize hand tools and heavy equipment to lift, carry, and position heavy materials safely and efficiently.
- Apply fall protection and respiratory protection measures consistently to maintain a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during installation and maintenance.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions promptly.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, reach, climb, balance, push, and pull while performing pipefitting activities.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the scheduled shift.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and handle heavier piping materials, tools, or equipment using appropriate assistance or material-handling equipment.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work from scaffolds, elevated work platforms, pipe racks, and other industrial work areas as required.
- Ability to perform repetitive movements associated with measuring, layout, fitting, bolting, tool use, and material handling.
- Ability to work on uneven, muddy, rocky, or otherwise variable walking and working surfaces.
- Ability to work outdoors in heat, humidity, cold, rain, wind, and other weather conditions.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to:
- hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, steel-toed footwear, FR clothing, fall protection, and other project-specific PPE.
Work Environment
- Work is primarily performed at active industrial construction, maintenance, turnaround, and customer facilities.
- Work may be performed in refinery, petrochemical, chemical, LNG, power generation, manufacturing, and other heavy industrial environments.
- Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, temperature extremes, noise, vibration, dust, dirt, fumes, moving equipment, piping systems, and other conditions typical of industrial construction and maintenance.
- Work may be performed around operating process units, piping systems, elevated work areas, excavations, structures, mobile equipment, and ongoing construction or maintenance activities.
- Work may require the use of ladders, scaffolds, elevated work platforms, and fall-protection systems.
