Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Software Engineer, Program Structure based in United States .
This is a high-impact technical leadership role focused on defining the architectural foundation for complex enterprise organizations. You will own the design and multi-quarter evolution of an enterprise organizational model spanning the broader platform. The role involves solving challenging problems around tenancy, data isolation, permissions, approvals, audit workflows, and data residency. You will guide phased delivery in a live production environment while preserving reliability and continuity for existing customers. Success requires strong product judgment, architectural depth, and the ability to influence teams beyond your direct organization. You will work closely with Engineering, Product, Design, and enterprise stakeholders to turn complex requirements into scalable platform capabilities.
- Own the architecture, technical direction, and multi-quarter delivery of an enterprise organizational model supporting hierarchical product lines, business units, isolated data access, cross-cutting workflows, scoped approvals, and regional data residency.
- Define durable platform abstractions that accommodate diverse and sometimes conflicting enterprise requirements while prioritizing scalable, general-purpose solutions over one-off customizations.
- Lead the transition of a live production platform toward a multi-tenant organizational structure, designing safe migration strategies and sequencing changes incrementally without disrupting existing customers.
- Balance long-term architectural goals with near-term customer value by establishing meaningful delivery milestones and ensuring each phase provides tangible product outcomes.
- Drive technical execution and alignment across multiple engineering squads, using architectural clarity, technical credibility, and strong communication rather than formal authority.
- Partner with Engineering leadership, Product, and Design to translate strategic architectural objectives into practical, phased, and deliverable initiatives.
- Establish technical standards, architectural patterns, and engineering practices for the program while influencing broader platform architecture and engineering excellence.
- Engage with enterprise customers and internal stakeholders to understand complex organizational needs and translate them into scalable product and platform solutions.
- 15+ years of deep backend software engineering experience, including ownership of complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives in fast-paced, product-oriented environments.
- Proven experience designing platform abstractions that address complex and conflicting enterprise requirements across a diverse customer base.
- Demonstrated ability to break large, structurally complex technical initiatives into incremental phases that deliver customer value while supporting a coherent long-term architecture.
- Strong experience influencing and coordinating engineering teams outside your direct reporting structure through technical leadership, credibility, and clear communication.
- Deep knowledge of enterprise architecture patterns, including multi-tenancy, role-based access control, data isolation, scoped permissions, cross-tenant operations, and access boundary design.
- Strong backend engineering and architectural expertise, with the ability to reason about complex systems and make sound long-term technical decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make sophisticated technical concepts understandable to engineering leaders, product teams, and customer-facing stakeholders.
- Experience with data residency requirements or regulated cloud environments such as GovCloud is a plus.
- Curiosity about AI and a willingness to use AI responsibly to amplify engineering capabilities, improve efficiency, and strengthen technical outcomes.
- Strong product judgment, ownership, adaptability, and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous and highly complex problem spaces.
- Competitive salary and equity package.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, with employee-only premiums fully covered for most medical plans.
- 16 weeks of paid parental leave for all new parents.
- Health and wellness stipend.
- Remote workspace, internet, and cellphone stipend.
- Commuter benefits for employees working from the San Francisco or New York offices.
- Family planning benefits.
- Matching 401(k) contributions with immediate vesting.
- Flexible paid time off policy plus 80 hours of sick time.
- 11 company-paid holidays.
- Virtual team-building activities, lunch-and-learns, and company-wide events.
- Access to a global office network across San Francisco, New York, London, Dublin, Tel Aviv, and Sydney.
- Remote-friendly working environment.
