We’re looking for an experienced, detail-oriented and results-driven Accounts Payables Accountant to join our Finance team.

If you’re passionate about financial accuracy, enjoy building strong supplier relationships and thrive on keeping financial operations running smoothly, this is your opportunity to bring your expertise to a dynamic hospitality environment.

About the Role

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the hotel’s Accounts Payable function, ensuring supplier invoices, payments and financial transactions are processed accurately, efficiently and within agreed timelines.

Beyond managing payments, you’ll play an important role in maintaining strong financial controls, supporting statutory compliance, improving reconciliation processes and providing reliable financial information to support business decisions.

We’re looking for someone who doesn’t just process transactions, but understands the importance of accuracy, accountability and effective financial management.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

1. Accounts Payable & Supplier Management

  • Manage the accurate and timely processing of supplier invoices, payments and related accounting transactions.

  • Maintain supplier accounts, statements and reconciliation records.

  • Prepare and circulate supplier ageing reports, monitor outstanding balances and follow up on discrepancies.

  • Prepare monthly payment schedules and ensure payments are processed in line with approved procedures.

  • Prepare and issue cheques and maintain the cheque issue register.

  • Monitor supplier credit limits and agreed payment terms.

  • Respond to supplier payment queries and resolve discrepancies promptly.

  • Create and maintain supplier accounts in the accounting system, following the required approval procedures.

  • Maintain organised supplier pending and paid files, ensuring all transactions are fully supported by appropriate documentation.

2. Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Generate Invoice Control in Materials Control and transfer transactions to Back-Office/SUN Financial.

  • Prepare the daily Cash Position Report.

  • Post receipts and cheque payments in SUN Financial.

  • Post payroll journals and reconcile payroll control accounts in the General Ledger.

  • Manage and reconcile the payables bank account and relevant General Ledger balances.

  • Maintain complete and accurate accounting records and supporting schedules.

  • Support financial reporting, departmental budgeting and budgetary controls.

3. Tax & Statutory Compliance

  • Prepare and verify schedules for applicable statutory returns and payments, including VAT, Withholding VAT, Withholding Tax, PAYE, NSSF, Tourism Levy, Corporate Tax, Import Taxes and other statutory obligations.

  • Ensure statutory returns and payments are accurately processed and submitted within the required timelines.

  • Maintain complete documentation supporting tax computations, filings and payments.

  • Monitor relevant changes in Kenyan tax legislation and statutory requirements to support ongoing compliance.

4. Audit & Internal Controls

  • Coordinate and support Accounts Payable-related internal and external audit requirements.

  • Provide accurate financial records and supporting documentation for audit reviews.

  • Follow up on audit queries and ensure timely resolution.

  • Maintain strong internal controls and adherence to accounting policies and procedures.

  • Identify discrepancies, control weaknesses and potential financial risks, escalating issues appropriately.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for a qualified accounting professional with practical experience, sound financial judgement and a strong commitment to getting the details right.

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance or a related business discipline from a recognised institution.

  • CPA(K) or ACCA qualification.

  • At least 2–3 years’ relevant experience in Accounts Payable, Creditors, Finance or Accounting.

  • Hands-on experience in supplier payments, reconciliations, ageing analysis and payment processing.

  • Experience preparing and processing statutory tax returns and payments.

  • Good knowledge of Kenyan taxation and statutory compliance requirements.

  • Experience with General Ledger entries, payroll journals and account reconciliations.

  • Knowledge of fixed asset accounting, depreciation and CAPEX controls.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.

  • Experience with SUN Financial, Materials Control or similar accounting/ERP systems is an added advantage.

  • Previous experience in a hotel or high-volume hospitality environment is an added advantage.

You’ll thrive in this role if you are:

  • Highly organised: You manage competing priorities without losing sight of deadlines.
