Position title: Project Coordinator

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Program Director, the Project Coordinator is responsible for delivering stewardship activities in the Gaspésie region related to responsible land management, ecological monitoring and access management. Activities include conducting various inventories, managing stewardship issues, ecosystem restoration, administering leases and agreements, communicating with partners and stakeholders, inspecting sites, managing access infrastructure, monitoring compliance, and supervising contractors and seasonal staff.

Responsibilities

Land Stewardship

Under the supervision of the Stewardship Project Manager for Eastern Quebec:

  • Coordinate, in collaboration with other regional staff members, the implementation of the stewardship framework and the responsible management of lands owned by NCC or protected under conservation agreements.
  • Coordinate and carry out field activities within the assigned region, including field surveys required to support land acquisition projects and stewardship initiatives.
  • Prepare, with support from regional staff, the reports required for stewardship program implementation, including annual monitoring reports, baseline inventories, and data entry.
  • Establish and administer various agreements, hunting leases, and contracts.
  • Assist with the annual planning of stewardship activities, tracking of activities, and preparation of progress reports.
  • In collaboration with the Stewardship Project Manager, train and supervise seasonal staff.

Conservation Planning / Science

  • Implement the recreational activity management framework for the Malbaie River in Gaspésie by monitoring ecological indicators related to Atlantic salmon, conducting visitor-use monitoring activities, and implementing a citizen science project.
  • Implement the monitoring protocol for assessing the effectiveness of wildlife crossings within the Forillon Corridor by installing wildlife cameras and collecting and processing monitoring data.

Partnerships, Outreach, and Public Awareness

  • Establish and maintain positive and productive relationships with volunteers, municipalities, Indigenous communities, and other local partners.
  • Promote public awareness and educate visitors at public access sites through patrols conducted during the summer season.
  • Represent NCC on various committees and at meetings or workshops, as required.

Budgeting and Work planning

  • Assist the Eastern Quebec Stewardship Project Manager in preparing funding applications, developing annual budgets, and tracking expenditures related to stewardship activities.
  • Support the Eastern Quebec Stewardship Project Manager in the annual planning of stewardship work, monitoring activities, and preparing progress reports.

Position Requirements

  • Successful completion of a College or University program in a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of Eastern Quebec’s flora and fauna, and experience planning and conducting field activities. Knowledge related to Atlantic salmon is considered an asset.
  • An understanding of conservation agreements and other legal tools associated with private land conservation.
  • Excellent oral and written French language skills.
  • Strong public speaking and communication skills, with the ability to effectively explain technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent report-writing and documentation skills related to the conservation field.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, and the ability to organize time, manage diverse activities, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with GPS systems and technology associated with field-based mapping, as well as MSOffice, MSWord, MSExcel, MSPowerPoint etc.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • The successful candidate will be based in the Gaspé office and must be willing to travel, work in remote locations, and occasionally work evenings and weekends. This position is not compatible with 100% remote work.
