The Coach is responsible for leading, developing, and managing all aspects of the Austin Waldorf School’s (“School”) track & field program. This includes fostering student-athlete growth, teaching fundamental and advanced skills, promoting good sportsmanship, and maintaining a competitive and educationally sound program aligned with the School’s mission.Essential Job DutiesThe Coach must be able to perform the following duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

This includes fostering student-athlete growth, teaching fundamental and advanced skills, promoting good sportsmanship, and maintaining a competitive and educationally sound program aligned with the School’s mission.Essential Job DutiesThe Coach must be able to perform the following duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Plan, organize, and conduct practices that develop track & field skills (6th-12th grades)Instruct athletes in rules, techniques, strategies, and physical conditioning Establish a positive team culture emphasizing discipline, respect, and teamwork Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, travel, and related activities Develop race strategies and make real-time decisions during competition Ensure compliance with school policies and applicable TAPPS rules Monitor and support student-athletes’ academic progress and eligibility Communicate effectively with players, parents, administration, and staff Help coordinate scheduling, equipment needs, and uniform distribution Maintain inventory and ensure proper care of facilities and equipment Promote the track program within the school and broader community Attend coaches’ meetings, trainings, and required certifications
- Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes Promote integrity, sportsmanship, and respect for opponents and officials Support multi-level program development (e.g. 6th grade, 7th & 8th, & HS teams)
- Previous coaching and/or competitive track & field experience preferred Knowledge of rules, techniques, and training methods Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to mentor and motivate middle school and high school students CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) Successfully complete background and Driver License checks and school employment requirements
- Seasonal position requiring after-school, evening, and occasional weekend hours Travel required for practices and meets Direct supervision of student-athletes is required during practices, meets and, as appropriate, when traveling for meets
- Ability to demonstrate skills and drills as needed The ability to learn, understand, remember, and communicate effectively information about the job.The ability to understand the meaning of and use and speak words understandably and effectively in the English language.Good hearing and listening abilities, that is, the Coach must be able to hear spoken words from students, parents, co-workers, and others.Good motor coordination skills, that is, the ability to coordinate his or her eyes, hands and fingers rapidly and accurately in order to handle precise movements such as typing.Make and use repetitive hand motions over an extended period, as when typing.Work effectively under pressure and deadlines.Sit, stand, move around, bend, reach, grasp, stretch, push and pull, and remain sitting or upright for extended periods of time in one room.
- Ability to stand, move, and actively participate during practices and meets Capability to lift, carry, or move equipment (up to approximately 50 lbs)
