Job Description

Lead Cloud Platform Engineer

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Lead Cloud Platform Engineer in the United States.

This role is responsible for designing, building, and operating secure, scalable AWS cloud environments that support enterprise SaaS applications used in highly regulated sectors. You will lead a small team of cloud engineers and play a key role in defining the technical direction for infrastructure, automation, and cloud operations. The position focuses on ensuring high availability, performance, and compliance while continuously improving deployment speed and operational reliability. You will collaborate closely with engineering, security, compliance, and technical operations teams to evolve cloud architecture alongside product needs. A strong emphasis is placed on automation, infrastructure as code, and DevOps maturity across the platform. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines technical depth with team mentorship and cross-functional influence. It is ideal for someone who thrives in complex AWS environments with strong security and compliance requirements.

Accountabilities
  • Lead and mentor a small team of cloud engineers, setting technical direction, prioritizing work, and ensuring effective delivery of cloud infrastructure initiatives.
  • Design, build, and optimize AWS environments supporting SaaS platforms, focusing on scalability, availability, performance, security, and cost efficiency.
  • Automate provisioning and deployment of customer environments using infrastructure as code (Terraform or equivalent).
  • Manage and secure core AWS services including compute, networking, storage, databases, and IAM across multi-account architectures.
  • Own cloud governance frameworks including AWS Config, Service Control Policies, and Control Tower to ensure compliance and security baselines.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, DevOps processes, and release automation in partnership with engineering teams.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident response practices, including participation in on-call rotations.
  • Support disaster recovery planning, backup strategies, and system resilience testing aligned with defined RTO/RPO requirements.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Security, Compliance, and ITSM teams to ensure alignment across architecture, operations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures while supporting audit and compliance needs (SOC 2, CJIS).
Requirements
  • 3–5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, systems administration, or related infrastructure roles.
  • At least 2 years of experience leading or mentoring engineers in technical environments.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, IAM) in multi-account environments.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation frameworks.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Experience working with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools in production environments.
  • Familiarity with security, compliance, and governance frameworks such as SOC 2 and CJIS is highly preferred.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to obtain required security clearance vetting (including CJIS fingerprint-based background check).
  • AWS certification (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
Benefits
  • Competitive annual salary ranging from $120,000 to $130,000 depending on experience and location.
  • Opportunity to lead cloud infrastructure for mission-critical SaaS platforms in a regulated environment.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
  • Retirement savings plan with employer contributions.
  • Flexible work arrangements with remote-friendly structure.
  • Paid time off and standard company holidays.
  • Professional development support, including certifications and training opportunities.
  • Exposure to advanced AWS architectures, DevOps maturity initiatives, and large-scale SaaS operations.
