Job Description
The technician is responsible for inductively coupled plasma – mass spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma- optical emission spectrometry sample preparation in the inorganic chemistry department , which includes preparing solid and water samples for analysis, ensuring procedures are followed in compliance with ISO 17025 and established SOPs, maintaining appropriate turnaround times and workflow, responding to client inquiries via lab directors, managers, and administration, and maintain open communication with laboratory directors and administrative staff.

Primary Duties:
- Sample preparation specific to department
- Microwave digestion
- Hotblock digestion
- Homogenization of food/dietary supplements
- Inorganic sample preparation—hot block digest (waters and iodine solids)
- Help maintain sample integrity, neatness, and organization (daily samples kept cold when required and containers kept neat).
- Follow established Quality control measures and safety measures including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Read and understand Standard Operating Procedures, Working instructions, and safety data sheets.
- Communicate with supervisors with regards to sample tracking, department delays or issues that affect clients.
Shared duties:
1. All checklists pertaining to daily operations of shared chemistry spaces
2. Maintaining reagent and supplies stock, ordering as needed
3. Dishes
4. General lab cleaning and maintenance
5. Garbage
6. Sample retain and integrity
7. Sample homogenization and compositing
8. Re-stocking supplies – within Inorganic and shared lab-wide consumables
9. Lab Organization – specifically within Inorganic
Minimum Qualification(s):
High School Diploma - Bachelor's Degree Preferred
