988 - Fabrication & Upfit Technician

Position Type: Full-Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Shift Schedule: Monday–Thursday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; Friday 6:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

Work Location: On-Site (Production Facility)

Reports To: Production Manager / Shop Supervisor

Job Summary

The Fabrication & Upfit Technician performs skilled fabrication, welding, vehicle modification, and assembly in support of ADAboy's wheelchair-accessible vehicle conversions and related products.

This position may support Research & Development through prototype fabrication, test builds, fitment, and development of new conversion processes. As products transition into regular production, the position performs the established fabrication, welding, modification, and assembly required to complete those builds.

Key ResponsibilitiesFabrication & Welding
  • Perform welding and metal fabrication for vehicle conversions, components, prototypes, and production builds.

  • Measure, cut, drill, grind, shape, fit, weld, and finish materials as required.

  • Fabricate and modify brackets, supports, mounts, frames, and other custom components.

  • Verify measurements, alignment, fitment, weld quality, and finished workmanship.

  • Safely operate welding and fabrication equipment, hand tools, and power tools.

Vehicle Upfitting & Assembly
  • Perform vehicle disassembly, modification, installation, assembly, and reassembly.

  • Install fabricated components, accessibility equipment, flooring, interior components, and other conversion-related equipment.

  • Complete assigned portions of a vehicle conversion or assist with/complete a full vehicle upfit as required.

  • Diagnose and correct fabrication, fitment, installation, and assembly issues.

  • Work alongside other technicians and Production personnel as needed.

R&D & Product Development
  • Fabricate and assemble prototypes and test components from drawings, measurements, samples, or direction from leadership.

  • Participate in prototype and test builds.

  • Identify fabrication, fitment, installation, or production concerns and assist in developing practical solutions.

  • Provide feedback on materials, tooling, fabrication methods, and installation processes.

  • Assist with transitioning approved products and processes from development into regular production.

Quality & Safety
  • Follow approved drawings, specifications, work instructions, and established processes.

  • Inspect completed work for proper fit, function, quality, and workmanship.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

  • Properly use required PPE and follow all Company safety procedures.

  • Report quality, equipment, process, or safety concerns to management.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Welding and metal fabrication experience required.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on fabrication ability.

  • Automotive, vehicle modification, fabrication, assembly, or related skilled-trade experience preferred.

  • Ability to accurately measure, cut, fit, fabricate, weld, and assemble components.

  • Ability to safely use welding equipment, fabrication equipment, hand tools, and power tools.

  • Ability to work from drawings, measurements, specifications, prototypes, and work instructions.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to adapt as products and processes move from development into regular production.

Physical & Working Conditions
  • Work is primarily performed in a vehicle conversion and fabrication environment.

  • Regular standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and working in and around vehicles.

  • Regular use of welding equipment, fabrication equipment, hand tools, and power tools.

  • Ability to lift and maneuver parts, materials, tools, and equipment associated with the position, with assistance when appropriate.

  • Exposure to normal shop conditions including noise, sparks, welding operations, metal fabrication, and power tools.
