Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW (non-exempt):
To perform radiographic and/or imaging examinations and procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision, but under the direction of the radiologist and/or ordering physician for diagnosis, and possibly treatment. Assumes responsibility for designated areas of department operation as trained and required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited program for Radiologic Technology.
- Currently registered, or registry eligible, by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
- Currently holds an Iowa "Permit to Practice Diagnostic Radiography" (classification “general”) from the Iowa Department of Public Health.
- Completion and documentation of appropriate training requirements for additional imaging modalities such as mammography when indicated by area of responsibility.
- Continuous Training: Must maintain continuing education standards to meet requirements of the "Permit to Practice" as set by the Iowa Department of Public Health as well as those required by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

DIRECT REPORTS:
None
POSITION-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Consistently and appropriately collects pertinent clinical information to assess appropriate imaging services and determine the most appropriate action plan for procedure completion.
- Provides appropriate communication and education to the patient, significant others and health care providers.
- Consistently uses methods, resources and skills to produce quality diagnostic images for completion of the examination and/or procedure. Includes the selection of appropriate technical factors, proper patient positioning and performance of established examination/procedure protocols and guidelines.
- Establishes physical readiness of equipment and supplies for examination/procedure. Ensures safe and proper equipment operation. Maintains necessary aseptic and/or sterile technique when utilizing supplies and equipment.
- Practices radiation protection for patient, self and others during examination/procedure.
- Evaluates the patient and the outcome of the examination and/or procedure to determine quality completion with optimal diagnostic information.
- Provides clear and concise documentation about patient care and the examination/procedure for continuity and accuracy of care.
- Assists and performs basic clerical duties including reception of patients, patient scheduling, delivery of reports, performs electronic order entry. Provides clear and concise documentation for billing exams and/or procedures. Completes the imaging process by finalizing images within the PACs system and completion of the order in CPSI.
- Has a good working knowledge of JCHC computerized Hospital Information System, computerized Imaging Systems and basic computer knowledge.
- Provides supervision, instruction and periodic evaluation of IHCC Radiology Students.
- May be required to perform other duties as designated by supervisor.
- Regular and punctual attendance.
- Ability to meet specific demands on a regular basis and performing multiple tasks at one time.
- Ability to use professional and ethical judgement as well as critical thinking skills.
- Ability to manage demands from patients, visitors, physicians, and other departments as well as internal demands from radiology staff members.
- Ability to work and communicate with patients, visitors, medical staff and all other hospital staff.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Works in a climate-controlled environment
- May come in contact with hazardous chemical or treatment modalities
- Possibility exists of exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids, chemicals, and gases
- Moderate to loud noise environment when machines/equipment in use
- Involvement in checking in/moving of supplies may result in unavoidable work-related injury
- Must be constantly alert for patient/family emergency situations
