Controller at CORPORATE COVERAGE COMPANY – Chicago, Illinois

The accounting division for a family of privately owned waste disposal and recycling companies is hiring for a Controller. Operating since 1976, our businesses span six states and serve rapidly growing metropolitan areas, including Chicago, Memphis, Clearwater, Orlando, and San Antonio.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant / Controller to lead accounting operations across multiple recycling locations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on financial work, managing staff, and collaborating closely with ownership.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage accounting checklists for daily/weekly/monthly accounting work.
• Conduct month-end close and review financial statements
• Supervise and develop office accounting staff
• Conduct performance reviews
• Train new team members
• Support departmental hiring
• Measuring workload/workflow and have cross training for proper staffing size
• Ensure compliance with internal procedures and duties
• Analyze trends and variances; develop cost-reduction strategies
• Manage budgets and forecasting for assigned locations
• Support special projects as assigned by management

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
• Waste & Recycling Industry experience
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Prior experience supervising direct reports
• Strong understanding of inventory accounting
• Demonstrated experience in budgeting, variance analysis, and cost control
• Proficient in MS Office, especially advanced Excel
• Experience in manufacturing, recycling, or services industries a plus
• Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
