About This Position

Zanders Sporting Goods, a family-owned wholesale distribution company in business for more than 50 years, is seeking a detail-oriented and approachable Human Resources Assistant to join our team. The HR Assistant will support the HR department with day-to-day administrative tasks, employee relations, and compliance processes. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, approachable, and eager to contribute to a positive workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the HR department, including preparing correspondence, reports, and employee files.
  • Assist with recruitment efforts, including posting job openings, screening applicants, scheduling and conducting interviews.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring all paperwork and systems are accurately maintained.
  • Help implement and track employee safety, training, and compliance programs.
  • Maintain HR databases, records, and reports with confidentiality and accuracy.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding company policies, benefits, and procedures.
  • Assist with HR projects, employee engagement initiatives, and special assignments as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Previous HR or administrative experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; approachable and able to build trust with employees.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems (preferred).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred.
  • FOID Card required; Illinois Residents.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to bend, reach, climb, stand or walk for long periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
