Location: Various public school sites in Philadelphia, PA
Schedule: Part-time, 17 hours per week (Monday–Thursday, 2:30–6:00 PM)
Reports to: Lead Teaching Artist
Position Summary
We are seeking a passionate Assistant Teaching Artist to support after-school visual arts programs for middle and high school students. This is an excellent opportunity for emerging educators, practicing artists, or recent art school graduates interested in gaining hands-on teaching experience in a creative, inclusive, and community-based setting.
As an Assistant Teaching Artist, you will collaborate with a Lead Teaching Artist to create a positive, engaging classroom where students can explore their creativity, build confidence, and connect art-making to the world around them.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Lead Teaching Artist in planning and delivering engaging visual arts lessons.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment where every student feels valued and heard.
- Assist with classroom set-up, clean-up, and preparation of art materials.
- Provide individual support to students during instruction and creative work time.
- Model professionalism, teamwork, and curiosity for students.
- Track student attendance and document class activities, including photos and weekly summaries.
- Participate in professional development sessions every other Thursday.
- Help chaperone field trips and maintain strong relationships with school and site partners.

What We’re Looking For
- Genuine enthusiasm for working with young people and supporting their artistic and personal growth.
- Experience or strong interest in visual arts education (1–2 years preferred).
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the classroom.
- Ability to adapt to dynamic learning environments and communicate effectively with colleagues and students.
- Comfort working in multicultural, multilingual, and LGBTQ+ inclusive spaces.
- Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
- Current Pennsylvania Child Abuse, Criminal Background, and FBI clearances (or willingness to obtain upon an offer of employment).
