Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and organized Part-time Prep Cook to join our kitchen team in our restaurant at Cornerstone Church. The Prep Cook will assist in preparing ingredients, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting the kitchen staff to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen. This role requires attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to food safety and quality. Job Summary

The Prep Cook plays an essential role in preparing ingredients and assisting in the smooth operation of the kitchen. This role requires a detail-oriented, organized, and reliable individual to help prepare ingredients for dishes, maintain cleanliness, and support the kitchen team in creating high-quality meals. The Prep Cook will ensure all food is prepared safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards to support the restaurant’s operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, and measuring food items according to standardized recipes and menu specifications.
  • Assist with basic cooking tasks such as sautéing, grilling, or frying under the supervision of the Line Cook or Executive Chef.
  • Ensure all ingredients are prepped and stored properly to maintain freshness and food safety standards.
  • Organize and stock kitchen supplies and ingredients in an efficient and orderly manner.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the prep area and kitchen, following sanitation guidelines and ensuring the workspace is tidy and safe.
  • Assist in cleaning kitchen tools, utensils, and equipment.
  • Follow all food safety and hygiene standards to prevent contamination.
  • Monitor inventory levels and inform the Executive Chef of shortages or supply needs.
  • Support other kitchen staff during peak hours or as needed to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
  • Adhere to the restaurant’s procedures for food preparation, portion control, and presentation.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations, including ServSafe guidelines.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support the ministry and its objectives.

Education and Experience

  • Culinary school experience or food handling certification is a plus.
  • Previous kitchen or food prep experience is preferred but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • ServSafe Manager certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days)

Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knife skills and knowledge of kitchen equipment (e.g., food processors, mixers, etc.).
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to follow detailed recipes and instructions.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to take direction and learn new cooking techniques.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends, early mornings, and holidays

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, employees will frequently be required to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds occasionally, and more than 50 pounds infrequently with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Schedule

Wednesday - Sunday 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Schedule may vary according to business needs.

Casual status roles may work up to 25 hours per week.
