POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Server Engineer is responsible for and leads various aspects of designing, building, monitoring, updating, and maintaining the server and computer infrastructure environment, encompassing both software and hardware components. The Senior Server Engineer consistently works independently, effectively leads others without authority, makes sound decisions, presents comprehensive cases for new ideas, independently manages capacity planning to help with budgeting, and provides infrastructure metrics. As a leader of the server team, this role is a vital part of a team managing the primary computing resources for a large, multi-regional healthcare provider. Ensuring the availability of mission-critical systems is paramount in this role. As part of supporting a 24x7x365 environment, this role assures ongoing operations and security for a facility that operates continuously to provide the best possible care to the patients we serve.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Minimum:

Associate degree in Healthcare, Information Technology, Business, or related field. Two (2) years combination of relevant experience and education may be considered in lieu of degree.

Preferred:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Healthcare, Information Technology, Business, or related field.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

Minimum:

N/A

Preferred:

Advanced certification in a relevant technical area, such as Microsoft, VMware, Nutanix, Citrix, cloud, or storage, EMC.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum:

Preferred:

5 years of relevant experience in IT Server Administration, Business Operations, Project Management, Analytics, or Monitoring.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

Demonstrated success architecting, designing, configuring, and supporting server infrastructure.

Demonstrated success effectively troubleshooting, isolating, and diagnosing problems within large-scale server infrastructure implementations.

Demonstrated success translating business needs into operational requirements.

Demonstrated success managing multiple large/complex projects simultaneously.

Demonstrated success mentoring and teaching others on Server Infrastructure technologies.

Intermediate proficiency in Leadership – ability to lead with integrity, maintain strategic orientation, demonstrate business & financial acumen, champion innovation, and manage execution.

Intermediate proficiency in technical management of applicable products or platforms.

Intermediate proficiency in communication.

Intermediate proficiency in effective members.

Intermediate proficiency in critical thinking.

Intermediate proficiency in mentoring and teaching.

Intermediate proficiency in lean management.

Intermediate competency in the following with at least three advanced:
 Administration and management of virtualization technologies.
 Administration and management of Cloud technologies; particularly Azure.
 Administration and management of storage technologies.
 Administration and management of backup technologies.
 Network infrastructure components and concepts.
 Proficiency in local area network/wide area network (LAN/WAN).

Knowledge of scripting languages; particularly PowerShell.

Knowledge of automation tools.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:

Monitor, maintain and support existing system infrastructure. Individuals may be contacted for system diagnostic and support purposes outside of their normal shift. A method of contact to perform remote work is necessary.

Work with vendors, clients, carriers, and technical staff on implementation, optimization, and security of server / endpoint infrastructure systems. This includes but is not limited to troubleshooting infrastructure and services including cloud technologies, server operating systems, server hardware, data storage, and server applications.

Carry out maintenance and upgrades on server / endpoint infrastructure.

Ability to research and implement innovative solutions, evaluate customer requests, and provide tailored solutions.

Build trusted relationships with stakeholders to optimize technology usage, while creating and implementing solutions with internal and external resources, ensuring effective communication.

Perform security review of Server / Endpoint Infrastructure and Applications.

Participate in the support of technology leveraged by a critical 24x7 environment.

Complete on-time execution of solutions and implementation plans utilizing the appropriate internal and external resources and ensuring full involvement of business partners and communication to all stakeholders.

Research and deliver new software, hardware, tools, systems, and processes to provide state-of-the-art collaboration solutions.

Lead the development and delivery of enterprise level technologies training relevant to area of expertise.

Monitor the latest market trend and industrial landscape to discover opportunities to improve customer experience and reduce operating costs.

Build and maintain project/technology related documentation, ensuring that accurate information is always available to other colleagues and management.

Manage server infrastructure system logging and provide performance metrics.

Assist and mentor less experienced colleagues and be a resource for UW Health employees and leaders for the Server Team.

Provide detailed runbook procedure and support documentation for routine maintenance on the server infrastructure systems.

Hold team and organization-level responsibilities and lead projects.

Deliver presentations to clients, leaders, and peers as it pertains to Infrastructure technology roadmap, architecture, engineering, and provisioning.

Assist with budget preparation.

Develop technical standards, define operational processes, and configuration best practices for server / endpoint infrastructure.

Responsible for the development of roadmaps and leading implementation projects.

Provide incident management and support to the critical issues escalated by Infrastructure team.

Lead the technical delivery of projects, including design, configuration, and testing of technical solutions for enterprise server infrastructure.

Work directly with IS Project Managers to update project plans and communicate project status.

Participate in operating model activities related to product and service ownership.

Meet and communicate with stakeholders, document project definition, and provide direction and leadership in project estimates and sequencing.

Review assigned service requests daily, follow up and provide status updates to clients; effectively maintain service delivery status and backlog.

Build, edit, and maintain team backlog; prioritize and document objectives for project sprints.
