Heavy Civil-Superintendent in Houston, Texas at Sterling Construction Company, Inc.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate with Project Manager daily to discuss project needs
• Field measure, quantify materials, and report over/under runs to the Project Manager daily
• Ensure that materials meet or exceed owner's specifications
• Coordinate lab testing of materials being placed
• Report any irregularities immediately to Project Manager
• Assess job priorities and assign employees to appropriate job tasks
• Ensure employees have tools and equipment needed for the job to ensure safety and production
• Oversee the work and ensure it runs smoothly and according to the project plan
• Give clear directions to crews to avoid repetitive mistakes or rework
• Ensure company rules are followed by the crew
• Hold daily take 5/JHA meetings and record them in the log for future reference
• Act as leader and supervisor for small crews engaged in road/highway construction, maintenance and repair projects, bridge construction maintenance and repair, and other civil infrastructure projects
• In the absence of the Project Manager, supervise operations, direct sub-contractors, and maintain material inventory
• Regular attendance and punctuality at the workplace is required

• 7+ years of current heavy highway, road, and/or bridge construction paving experience strongly preferred
• 7+ years of experience with small to medium highway road and bridge project experience ($5 mil to $30 mil) is required
• 5+ years of experience with managing/supervising heavy civil foremen and crews
• 3+ years of experience working on TXDOT
• 7+ years of experience operating asphalt paving equipment such as Pavers, rollers, frontend loaders, backhoes, etc.
