Occupational Therapy Asst Sr. - Huntsville - Full-Time in Huntsville, Texas at University of Texas Medical Branch

The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides occupational therapy services under the guidelines set by the Practice Act of the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Advisors Serves as a patient advocate assuring the delivery of occupational therapy meets legal, ethical and institutional standards while adhering to the philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures of the department and the organization

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Provide treatment to patients relative to age, culture and condition in assigned clinical area.
• Document patient treatment and progress, appropriately in the medical record. Documentation must meet peer review requirements.
• Communicate pertinent patient information with the supervising occupational therapist, patient, family members, physicians, team members, and other disciplines.
• Participate in rounds, clinics, and case conferences as assigned.
• Meet required competencies for assigned areas.
• Delegate duties and monitor service delivery appropriately to Rehabilitation Aides Supervise students as requested.
• Participate in training and mentoring of entry-level occupational therapy assistants
• Participate in and provide in-service/continuing education/research, teaching opportunities at department, state or national levels.
• Participate and assist with data gathering for quality assurance activities as requested.
• Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for department.
• Performs other related duties as required.

EQUIPMENT:

Standard office equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Standard hospital, clinical environment. May be required to work within the confines of a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center.
• Skilled in the use of materials, equipment, processes, procedures and techniques currently used in Occupational Therapy.
• May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications and disoriented or combative patients or others
• Alertness and careful attention to detail is required to avoid injury.
• Must be able to deal with stressful and/or complex situations.
• Travel may be necessary to cover for out-patient clinics.
• Meet CEU requirements.
• Other physical demands of the job may include lifting, transporting and transfers of patients assigned.

Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Associates degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.

Five (5) years related experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS

Licensed or eligible for license in the State of Texas.

Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience
