Achilles is recruiting a Pressure Vessel Design Engineer for a manufacturer that designs and fabricates custom ASME Section VIII pressure vessels and industrial process equipment. This is a hands-on mechanical engineering role covering pressure-vessel design, code calculations, detailed drawings, technical documentation, manufacturing support, and customer interaction. Direct ASME pressure-vessel experience is highly valuable, but we are also open to a strong engineer from an adjacent field such as process equipment, heat exchangers, piping, reactors, structural equipment, or similar engineered systems who wants to develop deeper expertise in code-vessel design.
What You'll DoDesign pressure vessels and related components to ASME Section VIII requirements
Perform and document engineering calculations for shells, heads, nozzles, flanges, supports, and external-pressure conditions
Develop complete vessel designs and fabrication drawing packages
Review customer purchase orders, specifications, drawings, and technical requirements
Select appropriate materials for code construction
Create bills of material and specifications for purchased components
Maintain calculation and code-documentation packages
Support Authorized Inspector reviews and code documentation
Work with manufacturing, welding, quality, NDE, testing, purchasing, project management, and sales
Support hydrostatic and pneumatic testing requirements
Resolve technical questions during fabrication
Communicate directly with customers on vessel design and code-related requirements
Participate in design reviews and help improve engineering standards
3+ years of progressive mechanical design engineering experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
3+ years using SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software to produce fabrication drawings
Strong mechanical-design fundamentals
Experience creating engineering calculations and detailed technical documentation
Ability to take ownership of technically complex engineered equipment
Experience in one or more of the following is highly valuable:
ASME Section VIII pressure-vessel design
Shell, head, nozzle, or flange calculations
Carbon steel, stainless steel, or nickel-alloy construction
Reactors, columns, heat exchangers, or process equipment
Jacketed vessels
Compress
PV Elite
NozzlePRO
Other Codeware tools
You do not need to already be an expert in every item above. A strong mechanical engineer with relevant adjacent-equipment experience can be trained on ASME Section VIII and Compress. Experience with welding symbols, GD&T, EIT certification, or a PE license is a plus.
This position is based on-site in Honey Brook, PA.
