Position Summary

The Plant Lead directs daily activities on the shop floor, ensuring work is prioritized, staffed, and executed safely and efficiently. This role carries operational authority over floor activities and work assignments and works closely with the Assistant Plant Manager to keep production running smoothly across shifts and departments.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily production activities on the shop floor, prioritizing jobs based on schedule, urgency, and available resources

• Assign and coordinate work among shop floor personnel to meet production goals

• Monitor job progress throughout the shift and address delays, bottlenecks, or quality issues as they arise

• Communicate priorities, schedule changes, and production status to floor personnel and leadership

• Ensure safety protocols, quality standards, and operational procedures are followed on the floor

• Coordinate with Scheduling, Quality, Maintenance, and other departments to resolve production issues

• Step in to direct floor operations and make operational decisions in the Assistant Plant Manager's absence

• Identify and escalate equipment, staffing, or material issues that affect production

• Support onboarding and training of new production employees

• Perform other production-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; additional technical training or certifications a plus

• 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication production environment

• Demonstrated ability to direct the work of others and make sound operational decisions without formal supervisory authority

• Strong understanding of shop floor operations, safety practices, and production workflows

• Strong communication and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work effectively across departments and under time pressure

• Must be able to read, write, and understand English

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to stand for prolonged periods (8+ hours)

• Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs. independently

• Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and manual handling of materials required

• Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity

• Ability to tolerate noise, heat, and dust in a manufacturing environment

• Visual acuity to read measuring tools, drawings, and detect quality defects

• Must pass initial and ongoing physical or occupational health screenings (e.g., lifting assessment, vision test, hearing test, etc.)

• Must be able to wear required PPE, including steel-toe boots, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection

Work Environment

Manufacturing floor with exposure to moving mechanical parts, CNC machinery, sharp materials, and moderate to loud noise. May be exposed to hot or cold environments depending on season. Work schedule may include overtime or weekend shifts as needed.
