Job Description

Synergy Technical is a modern technology services firm specializing in cloud transformation, cybersecurity, AI enablement, and managed IT services. Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Richmond, VA, the company has grown into one of Microsoft’s most trusted partners, delivering secure, scalable, and innovative solutions to customers across all 50 states and more than 70 countries. We operate with a lean, high-ownership culture where people are empowered to solve complex problems, influence decisions, and directly impact customer outcomes. Our teams thrive in an environment built on trust, accountability, and continuous improvement.

The Project Manager owns delivery of Synergy's professional services projects from kickoff through closeout, and makes sure they finish on time, on budget and within scope. The role works closely with engineering, the Service Desk and Account Executives. A key part of the job is handing completed projects smoothly into managed services, so every customer has a consistent experience from implementation through ongoing support.

Strategic Initiatives

Work with the VP of Support & Delivery, the Manager of IT Service Desk Operations and Account Executives to:

  • Deliver projects that grow and keep managed services customers.
  • Make sure each project ends with a clean handoff into managed services.
  • Improve Synergy's delivery methodology with standard templates, checklists, status reports and lessons learned.
  • Improve resource forecasting and utilization so engineering capacity matches the project pipeline.
  • Support compliance-driven and modernization projects, such as:
  • CMMC/NIST remediation
  • Azure migrations
  • Microsoft 365 security
  • Copilot/AI readiness

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Project Initiation & Planning
  • Review SOWs, scopes, assumptions and discovery worksheets before kickoff.
  • Flag gaps, risks and effort that doesn't fit the budget before kickoff.
  • Hold internal prep calls with Account Executives and engineers before customer kickoffs.
  • Confirm that licensing, prerequisites, access and deliverables are ready before the project starts.

Lead customer kickoff meetings and confirm with the customer:

  • Objectives
  • Stakeholders
  • Communication plan
  • Success criteria
  • Build project plans, schedules, RACI matrices and resource assignments.

Execution & Control

  • Manage several concurrent projects in delivery.
  • Track milestones, budget burn, hours and deliverables.
  • Send weekly customer-facing status reports, and give internal updates on health, risks and issues.
  • Manage scope through formal change requests and keep project records in the PSA up to date.
  • Remove blockers for engineers and escalate risks to leadership early.
  • Coordinate change control so project changes are tracked and low-risk to customer environments.
  • Make sure project documentation, as-built records and evidence meet Synergy, customer and partner audit standards (for example, Microsoft partner audits).

Managed Services Integration

Plan and lead transitions to managed services, including:

  • Environment documentation
  • Monitoring and security agent deployment
  • Site-specific SOPs
  • Alerting procedures
  • Help desk contact sheets
  • Coordinate customer onboarding and offboarding with the Service Desk.
  • Work with the Service Desk and NOC/SOC teams on project-related incidents and post-go-live stabilization.
  • Find follow-on project and managed services opportunities and pass them to the account team.

Closeout & Continuous Improvement

  • Get formal customer sign-off and close out deliverables, budgets and PSA records.
  • Run lessons-learned reviews and feed what you learn back into estimates and templates.
  • Update monthly reporting on resource forecasts, budgets and project portfolio status.
  • Support presales by providing task lists, effort estimates, assumptions and BOMs.

Qualifications Required:

  • 4+ years of IT project management experience, ideally with an MSP or IT consulting firm.
  • Proven delivery of Microsoft 365, Azure, Intune, Entra ID, infrastructure or security projects.
  • Good enough technical knowledge to talk credibly with engineers and customer IT staff.
  • Experience with project budgets, change requests and resource scheduling.
  • Proficiency with PSA/ITSM tools and Microsoft Project, Planner or similar tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including executive-ready status reports.

Preferred

  • PMP, CAPM or PMI-ACP; ITIL Foundation.
  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., AZ-900, MS-900, AZ-104).
  • Experience with compliance projects (CMMC, NIST 800-171, HIPAA).
  • Experience with Azure migrations (e.g., Azure Site Recovery), M365 tenant migrations or Copilot deployments.
