Job Overview:
The Monitor Technician plays a vital role in patient safety by continuously observing and analyzing central cardiac telemetry monitors to track patient heart rhythms. Operating as a key member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, this professional maintains real-time awareness of patient locations and rapidly communicates cardiac changes to the nursing staff. This role combines clinical alertness with clear communication to ensure high-quality care and immediate intervention when rhythm deviations occur.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Successful completion of a Certified Telemetry Monitor Course.
• Satisfactory completion of the departmental cardiac strip competency examination.
• High school graduate or equivalent educational credential (GED).
• Strong baseline of interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English.
Preferred:
• Prior experience tracking patient rhythms within a hospital or cardiology setting.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and electronic medical records.
Scheduling Requirements
• Per Diem – Night
Essential Functions:
• Monitors patient cardiac rhythms constantly to identify, interpret, and track any deviations, arrhythmias, or critical baseline changes.
• Reports immediate cardiac rhythm changes or alerts clearly and rapidly to the Primary Registered Nurse caring for the patient.
• Maintains accurate, real-time knowledge of all assigned patients currently on telemetry monitoring and their corresponding bed locations.
• Documents patient cardiac rhythm strips accurately, timely, and legibly on appropriate forms in accordance with hospital policy.
• Collaborates effectively with nurses and other patient care providers to integrate monitoring data into the patient's plan of care.
• Reports identified department or equipment safety issues, hazardous environments, or technical issues to the supervisor immediately.
• Maintains compliance with institutional Service Standards of Behavior and successfully completes all required hospital and departmental orientations.
