Job Description
Teaching Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Administration
• Assist in managing day-to-day operations of the surgical technology program.
• Ensure alignment with accreditation requirements and institutional standards.
• Participate in curriculum design, revision, and outcome assessment.
Teaching & Instruction
• Deliver lectures and labs in surgical technology courses.
• Supervise student learning, provide feedback, and assess academic progress.
• Support students in clinical exam preparation (CST and CBSPD).
Accreditation & Compliance
• Assist in preparing reports and documentation for CAAHEP and other accrediting bodies.
• Maintain program data for outcomes assessment and continuous improvement.
Faculty & Staff Collaboration
• Contribute to the recruitment and mentorship of other instructors.
• Conduct student selection interviews for new cohorts.
• Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and development workshops.
Student Advising & Support
• Advise students on academic progression, certification, and career readiness.
• Support initiatives for student retention and success.
Outreach & Program Promotion
• Build relationships with industry professionals and alumni.
• Promote community engagement and awareness of the surgical technology program and career field.
Requirements:Knowledge, Skills, abilities:

• Computer based skills (i.e., software, analytical, and report writing skills);
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet frequently occurring deadlines.
• Ability to develop a professional rapport with diverse school/campus constituents.
• Ability to develop and complete projects without continued direct supervision.
• Ability to learn from students' participation, demonstrates fair and consistent behavior in all matters, and shows compassion without being ineffectual.
Specialized technology skill requirements:
• The position also requires personal computer, and Outlook, excellent spelling and grammar skills, and the ability to communicate in a courteous, tactful, and concise manner.
• Experience using multiple approaches to teaching and learning, such as incorporating technology, service learning, contextualized instruction, multiple levels, universal design for learning, or other research-based and innovative approaches that support increased student success.
Physical Demands:
• Standing during didactic and laboratory courses for a minimum of 4 hours.
• Lifting supplies and instrumentation up to 25 pounds.
Education and/or Experience:
• Have documented education or experience in instructional methodology, curriculum design and program planning.
• Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
• Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
• Have a minimum total of two years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years.
