Job Description
About North Cloud
The public cloud is rapidly evolving, with businesses investing over $200B annually in cloud technology. As AI accelerates demand for scalable infrastructure, cloud costs are soaring, and most teams still rely on spreadsheets to manage them.
At North, we’re building the next-generation cloud spend management platform. We give companies real-time visibility, control, and automation over their cloud finances, so they can grow efficiently, without wasting time or money.
Backed by top-tier investors and trusted by global customers like Brave, The New York Public Library, and SumUp, we’re assembling a world-class team to redefine how businesses manage cloud infrastructure.
North is hiring the first member of our finance team. This is a Director-level role reporting directly to our Chief of Staff, while partnering closely with our CEO to build structure around our finances and bring a strategic lens to how we run the business.
You'll be a full-stack finance owner. Today, our accounting runs through an external firm and our internal operations team keeps the day-to-day moving. You'll be welcome to leverage both, but the function is yours: the close, the controls, the model, and the story they tell. This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role for the foreseeable future. You'll get ground-floor leadership of a function that doesn't exist as a standalone unit yet, a direct line to the CEO, and the chance to shape how a fast-growing company thinks about its own economics.
What You'll Do- Own pricing and unit economics. Continue to evolve our understanding of margins, cost of revenue, CAC/LTV, and payback and turn it into strategic guidance for the rest of the business..
- Build the systems, controls, and close. Stand up a clean, reliable monthly close, tighten revenue recognition, put sensible spend controls in place, and pick the right finance tooling for our stage.
- Be the strategic partner. Work side-by-side with the CEO and Chief of Staff on board materials, investor reporting, maintain the company forecast, annual budget, and headcount plan and the financial narrative behind major decisions.
- Run finance day-to-day. Work with our Chief of Staff on cash management, AP/AR oversight, payroll coordination and the unglamorous work that makes everything else trustworthy.
- Set the foundation for scale. Build the processes and reporting a company twice our size will need, so finance never becomes the bottleneck.
- 8–12 years of finance experience, with meaningful time as the first or early finance hire at a VC-backed startup, ideally SaaS.
- You've built a finance function from scratch before: close process, operating model, board reporting, and the systems underneath them.
- Strong command of SaaS metrics and unit economics; you can go deep on margins and pricing and explain what you find in plain English.
- Familiarity with the economics of the public cloud.
- A hands-on operator. You're comfortable being the whole finance team, building the model and chasing down the invoice (with help).
- High judgment and discretion; you'll see everything and be trusted with all of it.
- Clear communicator who can partner with a CEO, a board, and a 40-person team without translation.
- Experience managing or transitioning away from an outsourced accounting firm.
- CPA
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure economics or FinOps. Finance is literally our product.
The pay range for this role is:
170,000 - 200,000 USD per year(Brooklyn HQ)
