Department Summary

Economic & Business Development Office is part of Hillsborough's Planning & Zoning Department and encourages the attraction, retention, and growth of businesses in the Township. The department promotes businesses and their services to the community through engagement programs such as Restaurant Week and Experience Hillsborough, and coordinates events like business socials to cultivate professional networks in the business community. It also develops relationships with County, State, and Federal agencies to connect businesses with assistance programs and creates or participates in initiatives to promote Hillsborough as a desirable destination for economic development.


Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Economic & Business Development Manager, the Outreach Support Specialist assists the department with planning events, administering programs, and performing administrative tasks as needed. The role serves as the department's marketing, communications, and public engagement resource. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys engaging in activities & events and is seeking experience in marketing, economic development, local government, and community outreach, with flexible hours


Job Responsibilities

  • Creates promotional materials for events, programs, and initiatives
  • Assists with developing and executing marketing and economic development strategies forTownship-wide economic development initiatives and promotions
  • Supports department social media efforts, including social media platforms, digital outreachcampaigns, and website content
  • Assists with planning, coordination, and implementation of events and projects
  • Supports event logistics, photography, public relations, and community engagement efforts
  • Able to produce promotional materials, videos, and event marketing content (i.e., flyers,graphics, short-form videos)
  • Maintains digital outreach to engage the public during initiatives such as, but not limited to,Children's Week, HBA Job Fair, Restaurant Week, and the HBA Awards
  • Provides support for Planning, Zoning & Sustainability initiatives, department administrativefunctions, and other assignments & projects as needed


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Required

  • Outstanding customer service, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in graphic design tools such as Canva
  • Experience with social media platforms, content creation/management, marketing initiatives,and related fields
  • Ability to maintain consistency across all promotional/marketing materials (colors, fonts, logoplacement, layout, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Google Suite (Mail, Drive, Docs, Forms, Sheets, etc.)
  • Efficient time management, organizational skills, and attention to details
  • Ability to adapt to new concepts and function in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, but also able to collaborate effectively in a teamenvironment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

Preferred

  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Experience with event planning
  • Experience with community outreach and engagement


Education, Certifications, and Licenses

Required

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of job-related experience
  • Valid NJ Driver's License

Preferred

  • Certification or degree in marketing, event planning, or a related field


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work for extended periods on computer-based tasks
  • The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds


Additional Information

  • Clearance of a background check
  • Department operation hours are 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday; schedule is flexibleto accommodate after-hours meetings and events
  • Occasional work - at - home opportunities may be available based on department needs
