Job Summary:

Responsible for the operation of diagnostic Echocardiography equipment for the performance of all dynamic echocardiography procedures. Performs examinations, contributing to the efficient operation of the department and promoting the philosophy, to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care.

Core Duties:

  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Demonstrates proficiency by performing echocardiograms utilizing independent judgment and manipulation of equipment to obtain all necessary calculations and measurements.
  • Able to identify cardiac abnormalities and notifies the Cardiologist, based on area specific protocol in place.
  • Passes contract competency training, and identifies when such contrast is needed, to obtain the best images.
  • Provides clinical services according to specialized ultrasound practice standards and acts as a resource to ensure optimal area functioning.
  • Administers sound patient care practices according to policies and procedures, to ensure the safety of patients.
  • Demonstrates safety for patients, staff, and self as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines, to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
  • Maintains equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a neat and safe condition, to ensure the safety of the patients and employees.
  • Completes ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent departmental operations.
  • Explains procedure before beginning each study, prepping patient, calibrating equipment, and entering patient data.
  • Completes all studies within selected shift or schedule, unless cleared by the supervisor. No blocks or changes can be made to the booked patient testing schedule, without manager approval.
  • Prepares test results for physicians’ interpretation providing all pertinent patient data, accurately recording measurements on data sheet. Copies and disperses study to appropriate areas.
  • Initiates an appropriate charge for patient account by the end of each shift.
  • Maintains proper care of equipment, including cleaning and re-stocking.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of echocardiography training program.
  • Knowledge of TEE and Echo Stress required.

Required Certifications, Licensure:

  • Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, registry eligible, and certification within 3 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications/Additional Skills:

  • Advance training in Echo cardiology.
  • Specialty in infant and pediatric
