Position Summary
Loading finished trailers on flatbed, drop deck and ramp commercial carrier trailers. Properly secure all outgoing loads while keeping pace with shipping demands.
Functions and Responsibilities
- Loads finished trailers and parts for scheduled shipments.
- Operates forklift, yard tractor, and material handling equipment in and around warehouse
- Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the yard
- Utilizes available loading straps, wood, and dunnage to properly secure loads.
- Ensures compliance with all safety policies and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn.
- Works with the Shipping Yard Lead to assure proper load documentation is provided to each driver.
- Performs basic preventive maintenance on all equipment in the yard to include, tractor, lift truck and various fall protection equipment systems.
- Reviews freight orders to identify potential issues to avoid delays in shipping.
- Loads and unloads shipments, pallets, as may be required.
- Performs other related duties and assignments as required.
Desired Education/Experience
- High School diploma or GED
- Previous hands-on experience with tractors, vehicles and forklifts and boom lifts preferred
- Previous hands-on experience with a variety of power tools preferred
- Previous experience rigging desired
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Planning: an ability to think ahead and prepare action plans to achieve results.
- Must have advanced rigging and load securement skills
- An ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, cost, and employee relations.
- Attention to detail with good organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with crew and outside drivers.
