Position SummaryThe AV Lead Installer performs the same hands-on installation responsibilities as an AV Field Technician while serving as the technical field lead and primary on-site representative for Modtech Solutions. The Lead helps coordinate field execution, loads approved system programming and configuration files, leads commissioning and testing activities, communicates with the customer, mentors technicians, and works with Project Managers and Engineers to ensure systems are successfully installed, accepted, and turned over.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities• Lead and perform the installation of AV and VTC systems in accordance with approved designs, drawings, manufacturer requirements, and project specifications.
• Perform all core AV Field Technician installation duties, including equipment installation, rack buildout, pathway installation, cable routing, termination, testing, labeling, and documentation.
• Load approved system programming, firmware, configuration files, and device settings developed or provided by Modtech Engineering and Programming teams.
• Perform system configuration and programming activities within the individual's training, certifications, and technical qualifications.
• Lead on-site commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, customer demonstration, and system acceptance activities.
• Verify system functionality and performance against approved drawings, specifications, programming requirements, and acceptance criteria.
• Troubleshoot AV equipment, signal paths, control systems, network connectivity, cabling, programming, and system integration issues.
• Coordinate with Modtech Engineers, Programmers, Project Managers, and manufacturer technical support to resolve complex technical issues.
• Serve as a primary on-site liaison between Modtech and the customer during installation, commissioning, testing, and turnover.
• Represent Modtech Solutions professionally during customer interactions, site meetings, coordination activities, training, and system acceptance.
• Communicate project status, technical issues, field conditions, risks, and customer concerns to the Project Manager and appropriate Modtech team members.
• Coordinate daily technical activities and installation priorities with technicians and project personnel.
• Assist Project Managers and Engineers with field execution planning, manpower, material, equipment, technical requirements, and upcoming project activities.
• Maintain awareness of upcoming work on the Long Range Schedule (LRS) and help identify technical, training, personnel, equipment, and readiness requirements for future projects.
• Mentor and train AV Field Technicians in installation practices, troubleshooting, planning, documentation, quality, safety, and Modtech standards.
• Inspect field work and help ensure installations meet Modtech quality standards, project specifications, drawings, and customer requirements.
• Ensure accurate field markups, redlines, test results, commissioning documentation, and field reports are completed within required timeframes.

The ability to assist Project Managers and Engineers with planning and readiness. Lead Installers look beyond today's work, maintain awareness of the Long Range Schedule (LRS), and help ensure the team is prepared not only for the next project, but for the next several projects.
Required Qualifications• Demonstrated experience installing commercial or Government AV/VTC systems.
• Advanced working knowledge of AV equipment, structured cabling, equipment racks, signal flow, control systems, and professional AV installation practices.
• Experience commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting integrated AV systems.
• Experience loading system programming, firmware, configuration files, or device settings.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot AV equipment, cabling, signal flow, control, network connectivity, and integration issues.
• Ability to lead technical field activities and provide direction to other technicians.
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to mentor and train less-experienced technicians.
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings, system diagrams, rack elevations, floor plans, and installation documentation.
• Ability to use common AV, telecommunications, electrical, and low-voltage installation tools and test equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to installation quality, safety, and professional conduct.
• Ability to communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, subcontractors, and Government personnel.
• Ability to work at heights, use ladders and lifts, and perform the physical activities associated with field installation.
• Valid driver's license.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret (TS) security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications• Active U.S. Government security clearance strongly preferred.
• Current or former U.S. military service preferred.
• Experience supporting Department of Defense or other U.S. Government facilities.
• Experience working in secure or classified Government facilities.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Prior experience leading AV installation teams or technical field crews.
• Experience with professional AV platforms including Extron, Crestron, Biamp, QSC, Cisco, Shure, or similar systems.
• Manufacturer certifications relevant to installed AV/VTC systems.
• AVIXA CTS, CTS-I, CTS-D, BICSI, fiber optic, networking, or other relevant industry certifications.
• Experience with TCP/IP networking, networked AV, VLANs, PoE, and basic network troubleshooting.
Location and TravelThis is a CONUS-based field position. Preference will be given to candidates located near Modtech Solutions' warehouse and operations facility in Mascoutah, Illinois / Greater St. Louis area. Candidates located elsewhere within the continental United States may be considered based on qualifications and ability to support project requirements.
Approximately 50–60% travel is required to support projects at Department of Defense and other U.S. Government facilities throughout the United States. Travel assignments may vary in duration and may occasionally require extended stays at project locations. Candidates must be comfortable traveling by commercial air and vehicle and working at military installations, secure facilities, active construction sites, and other Government locations.
