Job Summary
- Implement the Order Fulfillment Process steps related to the preparation of shipments and related documentation to ensure the complete satisfaction of the customer’s requirements.
- Primary a clerical job in the Shipping/Receiving department. Primary responsibilities are to prepare records of goods shipped; make up bills of lading; post weight and shipping charges; keep files of shipping records; receive incoming shipments of merchandise or other materials; verify correctness of shipments against bills of lading, invoices, etc.; keep records of goods received; report damaged goods and shortages; route goods to the proper departments. Workers may use bar code readers, computer terminals or other electronic devices. Work may include material handling.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist in scheduling and coordinating the shipping activities to team members to ensure the complete satisfaction of the customer’s delivery requirements:
- Utilize shipping and customer order reports to ensure all shipments are made on time
- Confirm correct quantity/counts against work order or packing slip
- Review work order and shipment details for all shipments scheduled to ship and prepare for any special requirements, including HAZCOM/International shipment requirements
- Verify and ensure proper carrier selection and freight terms for outgoing orders
- Prepare the shipping documentation including packing lists, labels, hazardous certs, certificates of compliance, and all related paperwork required for shipment and delivery to the shipping department (IPS, FedEx, Bills of Lading)
- Prepare paperwork with related shipping cost information and copy of proof of shipment for billing purposes by the invoicing department
- Contact shipping company representatives to schedule pick-ups as required
- Contact Customer Service regarding documentation verification, as needed
- Receive finished goods into inventory as needed to complete daily shipments
- Maintain Hazardous shipment certification training, as needed
- File damaged or lost product claims with shipping companies
- Pack ground shipments by inspecting, labeling and packaging product by company standards
- Match work order/packing slip documentation to order documentation to verify all critical shipment data
- Verify that all work orders are correctly signed off for in-process inspections
- Wipe or mark parts as needed
- Ensure product is packed in a timely manner and protected from damage following customer specifications or internal guidelines for shipment or placement in stock
- Ensure packaged product is properly marked and labeled with all information
- Complete work order or packing slip paperwork
- Operate forklift (As needed and if certified through TGC)
- Participate in cross training to become knowledgeable of equipment/process within the department
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Provide guidance, feedback and positive behavior modeling The Gund Company culture of care:
- Determine if tools are undamaged and in safe condition for use
- Make suggestions to improve production and order processing efficiency
- Assist with training other team members
- Follow safety rules and quality standards
- Model ethical and moral behavior consistent with the values and ideals supported by The Gund Company
- Driving flatbed or box truck to make deliveries or material transfers across buildings
Qualifications and Competencies
- Requires intermediate to advanced reading, math and communication skills
- Communicate with supervisor on work order priority
- Open to change due to emergency orders or fabrication of parts
- Ability to understand drawing and blue prints
- Ability to use basic measuring instruments
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Must be able to work overtime as needed
- Valid driver's license
Education and Experience
- Equivalent to a high school education and one or more years of related experience, or equivalent.
- A High School Diploma or GED with prior hands on, vocational or job-related course work/training, or any similar combination of education and experience is required. Prior experience in a manufacturing industry is preferred.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is may be required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The work environment is typical of most shop environments; not climate controlled and subject to outdoor weather conditions. Team members are exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting.
- Frequent exposure to fumes/dust particles; may require use of respirators or other types of PPE.
- May come in contact with toxic or caustic chemicals.
