Job Description
Dent Med-Periodontics/Preventive Dentistry - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (26005886)
A postdoctoral associate position is available immediately in the laboratory of Giuseppe Intini, DDS, PhD at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. The Intini laboratory is part of the University of Pittsburgh Center for Craniofacial Regeneration (CCR) in the School of Dental Medicine and is affiliated to the University of Pittsburgh Hillman Cancer Center. The laboratory is located in the Salk Research Pavilion, a brand new, state-of-the-art, research tower of the University of Pittsburgh.
The laboratory has identified the calvarial suture as the niche of osteoprogenitor cells (see Wilk et al, Stem Cell Reports, 2017; Aldawood et al, PNAS 2023). Current research aims at developing novel strategies to activate osteoprogenitor and periodontal stem cells to induce periodontal regeneration. The laboratory is also involved in CASIS/NASA sponsored research aimed at understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate bone homeostasis and bone regeneration in low gravity conditions (see Di Carlo et al, NPJ Microgravity 2026). An additional research branch of the laboratory aims at identifying and characterizing the molecular signature of circulating osteosarcoma cancer cells, with the final goal of understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate the ability of these cells to colonize lung tissues during metastases (Sci Adv, in press, 2026).
This postdoctoral associate will be responsible for working on NIH sponsored research aimed at studying periodontal stem cells. Duties will also include general lab maintenance, undergraduate student supervision, assisting with instruction and training of graduate students, and other general duties such as preparation of IACUC and IRB research protocols. The scholar is expected to keep a careful, current (timely), truthful and honest record of the experiments conducted so that each experiment may be repeated and reconstructed from the entry data alone. The scholar is expected to have both professional and ethical conduct while at work.
Qualifications:
PhD, DDS/DMD, or MD is required. This position requires a highly motivated, independent individual with strong work ethic. Experience working with RNA-based technologies (such as single cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics), human genetics, pathophysiology of skeletal diseases, and handling of small animals is desirable. Applicants must also have strong written and verbal skills in English, ability to mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the laboratory, and a desire to collaborate with colleagues with different backgrounds such as clinicians, basic scientist, and engineers.
Qualified applicants should send a cover letter describing relevant research experiences and research interests, curriculum vitae, and a contact information of 3 references.
The University of Pittsburgh is an equal opportunity employer / disability / veteran.
