Floor Care Manager & Assistant Director of Special Projects

Helpful Hands, Inc. (HHI) is a nonprofit organization participating in the AbilityOne Program and supporting federal government operations. This position is based in the Tacoma, Washington area and supports Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC).
Position Summary
The Floor Care Manager & Assistant Director of Special Projects leads daily floor care operations while supporting the Environmental Services Executive (ESE) with special projects, quality improvement, regulatory readiness, and operational initiatives. The position ensures compliance with the MAMC Performance Work Statement (PWS), HHI policies, safety standards, and healthcare cleaning requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise daily floor care operations, including mopping, buffing, burnishing, stripping, refinishing, and carpet extraction.
- Supervise Floor Care Supervisors and Associates, including scheduling, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Conduct inspections and ensure timely correction of service deficiencies.
- Ensure compliance with PWS, MAMC, OSHA, infection prevention, safety, and PPE requirements.
- Monitor equipment, supplies, inventory, and operating costs.
- Support ESE-led special projects, audits, inspections, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, and regulatory readiness.
- Develop and track project plans, action items, and performance metrics.
- Support employee training, onboarding, and professional development.
- Maintain required compliance documentation and reports.
- Participate in customer rounds, government meetings, and facility inspections.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost savings, sustainability, and operational efficiency.
- Provide leadership support during staffing shortages, emergencies, and ESE absence.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
- 3–5 years of EVS, healthcare housekeeping, floor care, or related experience.
- 2+ years of supervisory or management experience.
- Healthcare, federal, military, or regulated-environment experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, problem-solving, and project-management skills.
- Knowledge of floor care, healthcare cleaning, infection prevention, safety, and quality standards.
- Ability to interpret and implement PWS and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Certifications: CHESP, RESE, CESE, IEHA, Lean/Six Sigma, or related certification.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, kneel, reach, push/pull equipment, and lift up to 50–60 pounds. Work may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals, bodily fluids, hazardous materials, and communicable diseases. Appropriate PPE is required.
