Description
The Research Technician (Cell Biology) will perform cell and molecular biology experiments examining cellular stress responses and membrane-associated proteins. The Research Technician (Cell Biology) will also acquire and quantitatively analyze microscopy data, assist with assays, maintain experimental records, and prepare figures and research reports.
*Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a Grant/Contract over a specified period. Employment for this position beyond current Grant/Contract funding is contingent upon continued funding or new Grant/Contract.
Essential Duties- Maintain mammalian cell cultures and perform experimental treatments related to cellular stress and membrane-protein localization.
- Fluorescence/confocal microscopy, acquisition and quantitative analysis of cellular images, and biochemical characterization of experimental samples
- Organize and analyze experimental data
- Maintain detailed laboratory records
- Perform appropriate quality-control analyses
- Prepare figures, summaries, and reports describing experimental results.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous laboratory research experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular or cellular biology techniques is required.
- Demonstrated experience with fluorescence/confocal microscopy and quantitative image analysis is required.
- Experience with biochemical assays, statistical/data analysis, preparation of publication-quality figures, and scientific reporting is highly desirable.
EDUCATION:
- A minimum Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-15 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
