Job Description

Physician--Neurologist (Neuromuscular Medicine)

Neuromuscular Medicine Neurologist

WMC-North Region | Academic Neurology Opportunity

We are seeking a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Neurologist with fellowship training in Neuromuscular Medicine to join and help develop a growing Neuromuscular Medicine Program in the North Region. This is an exciting opportunity for a neuromuscular specialist who is interested not only in clinical practice, but also in building and shaping a developing regional program within a larger academic health system.

Position Highlights

  • Opportunity to play a key role in the development and expansion of neuromuscular services in the North Region
  • Build a regional referral base for patients with neuromuscular disorders
  • Develop and expand EMG/NCS services
  • Opportunity to establish focused programs for conditions such as peripheral neuropathy, myopathy, myasthenia gravis, CIDP, muscular dystrophy, SMA, and motor neuron disease
  • Collaborate closely with an established neuromuscular team across the health system
  • Develop multidisciplinary relationships with PM&R, neurosurgery, pain management, rehabilitation, physical and occupational therapy, pulmonology, cardiology, and genetics
  • Participate in teaching of neurology residents, fellows, and medical students
  • Opportunities for clinical research and participation in emerging neuromuscular therapeutics and clinical trials

Clinical Responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide outpatient neuromuscular consultation and longitudinal care while helping expand the regional neuromuscular practice. Responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluation and management of a broad spectrum of neuromuscular disorders
  • Performance and interpretation of EMG and nerve conduction studies
  • Development of subspecialty neuromuscular clinics based on regional needs
  • Shared inpatient neuromuscular consultation as appropriate
  • Collaboration with other neuromuscular specialists throughout the health system to facilitate referrals and continuity of care

Program Development Opportunity

A major attraction of this position is the opportunity to help create the next phase of neuromuscular care in the North Region. The successful candidate will have the ability to influence the structure and growth of the program, including referral pathways, EMG services, multidisciplinary clinics, community outreach, and future recruitment.

The position is particularly well suited for a physician who enjoys building programs, developing collaborative relationships, and creating a regional center of excellence in neuromuscular medicine.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Neurology
  • Fellowship training in Neuromuscular Medicine and/or Clinical Neurophysiology
  • Experience with EMG/NCS
  • Eligible for medical licensure in New York State
  • Interest in program development, education, and collaborative clinical care

Academic Opportunities

The position offers opportunities for an academic faculty appointment commensurate with experience and qualifications. Faculty members may participate in:

  • Resident and medical student education
  • Neuromuscular and electrodiagnostic teaching
  • Clinical research
  • Quality improvement initiatives
  • Clinical trials and emerging neuromuscular therapies
  • Development of regional and system-wide neuromuscular programs

Why Join the North Region?

This position offers a unique combination of clinical practice, academic medicine, and program development. Rather than stepping into a fixed practice model, the incoming neurologist will have the opportunity to help define how neuromuscular care develops in the region while benefiting from the resources, expertise, and referral network of a larger academic health system.

For a motivated neuromuscular specialist, this represents an opportunity to build a practice, develop a program, and become a key physician leader in the growth of neuromuscular medicine in the North Region.
