Job Description
The LQS oversees CAP activities of the laboratory and is expected to understand the checklists questions that apply to general test performance. The LQS will oversee training and six elements of competencies for technical staff per CAP Guidelines. The LQS will oversee biennial review of lab procedure manuals and form reviews per CAP Guidelines. As a part of the oversight, the LQS will maintain appropriate documentation and be able to respond to regulatory agencies as required. The LQS works closely with Senior Techs, Phlebotomy Supervisor, Lab Director, Pathologist, designated nursing staff, as well as the hospital quality department to ensure all standards are met and documentation is maintained. The LQS is responsible for the oversight of any other laboratory testing (point of care) performed within the hospital by nonlaboratory staff.
The LQS will be required to ensure Lab Quality Measures are being entered into Dashboard in a timely fashion. Following up with corrective action when indicated. Monthly data submitted to pathologist and lab director for review and sign off.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science or Chemical Science required.
Experience:
- A minimum four (4) years of general laboratory experience as a MT required.
- A minimum two (2) years of Lab Quality improvement experience or Point of Care lab experience preferred.
- Experience with Point of Care software and/or instrument management preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
- Certified as a Medical Technologist through an accredited agency required. (ASCP preferred)
Special Skills:
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, physicians, department heads, and members of executive leadership required.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Explorer and PowerPoint required.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of CAP standards required.
- Exemplary core customer service skills strongly required.
- Knowledge of leadership, creativity, teaching, education, and group dynamics required.
- Strong organizational skills required.
- Strong verbal communication skills required.
- Knowledge of elementary principles of management required.
