Position Summary:

Alexandria Soccer Association (ASA) is seeking enthusiastic and dependable coaches to support players in our Grassroots Recreation Soccer programs.

Coaches help create a positive, safe, and engaging environment where players can develop soccer skills, build confidence, learn teamwork, and develop a lasting love for the game.

Opportunities include Saturday PreK/Kindergarten coaching and Recreation team coaching for players in 1st grade through U19. Weekday practice schedules are flexible based on coach availability and program needs.

ASA provides coaching resources, equipment, and ongoing support to help coaches succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Coaching & Youth Development
  • Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled practices and games.
  • Send weekly emails to players and families.
  • Deliver engaging, age-appropriate soccer lessons, practices, games, and activities.
  • Actively participate in demonstrations, games, drills, and activities to encourage player engagement and enjoyment.
  • Lead your team of players in a safe, structured, and inclusive environment.
  • Build positive relationships with players by serving as a mentor and role model.
  • Reinforce positive behaviors through encouragement, teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, and respect.
  • Collaborate with the Recreation League Director or Age Group Managers to ensure each session runs smoothly.
  • Assist with setting up, organizing, and storing program equipment before and after each session.
  • Communicate professionally with ASA staff, players, and families.
  • Uphold ASA mission and values by promoting inclusion, respect, youth development, and positive community impact.
Coaching Opportunities & SchedulePreK & Kindergarten League Structure

The PreK & K Program is for players ages 4.5 - 6 years old.

  • Each session is approximately 1.5 hours
  • Coaches commit to a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 sessions each Saturday
  • Saturday sessions take place between 8:00 am and 2:30 pm
  • 7-week program
    • Dates: September 12, 19, 26; October 3, 17, 24, 31
Recreational League Structure

The Recreational League is for players in 1st through 12th grade.

Typical weekly commitment includes:

  • Approximately 30-60 minutes of communicating (emailing or messaging) families 2 times per week
  • Weekly practices: Approximately 1 hour - 1 hour 15 minutes each week; based on your availability
  • Game day: Approximately 1 hour - 2.5 hours each Saturday.
    • U13-U19 teams will have both home and away games during the season.
  • 7-10 week program
    • Practice week of: September 7, 14, 21, 28; October 5, 12,19 26; November 2
    • Game Dates: September 12, 19, 26; October 3, 17, 24,31; November 7, 13, 14 & 15

Flexible scheduling options may be available based on program needs and coach availability.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must generally be at least 15 years old
  • Relevant coaching or youth development experience may be considered.
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check provided and paid for by ASA.
  • Experience working with children (e.g., coaching, teaching, camp counseling, mentoring, babysitting, etc.)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other coaches/volunteers, players and families.
  • Enthusiastic, dependable, and passionate about youth development through sport
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Reliable transportation and commitment to punctuality
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous soccer playing, coaching, youth development, education, recreation, or athletics experience.
  • A genuine passion for mentoring youth and supporting confidence, teamwork, healthy habits, and social-emotional development.
Physical Requirements:
  • The job may require the coach to function in high-activity indoor and outdoor sports venues and to be exposed to inclement weather of varying degrees.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the coach may be required to stand for long periods of time and walk long distances.
  • The coach may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, sit, lift, and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Compensation:

The projected wage rate for this position is $13.00 - $35.00 per hour. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements.
