Coaching schedule: Requires flexibility; practices and competitions may occur before or after school day

Job Purpose: The head coach will serve as a representative for the Academy's mission and is responsible for creating a safe and supportive learning environment that promotes the intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth of each student-athlete.
Faith, Community, and Dominican Charism
- Ensure that the four pillars of a Dominican education (prayer, study, community, preaching) are developed and promoted among the school community.
- Develop an active faith community and model Christian values.
- Support prayer and spiritual formation within the student, faculty/staff, and parent communities.
- Uphold and implement the Dominican charism and the Houston Dominican Sisters’ congregational goals.
- Demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion by honoring the dignity of each member of the St. Agnes Academy community.
Essential Coaching Duties:
- Instruct, guide, and motivate students to be successful on and off the court
- Hold organizational meetings for team prospects and encourage potential athletes to participate in the sport; Assess player’s skills and assigns team positions; Keep statistics
- Develop a regular practice schedule providing for both individual and team development
- Coach all players within the volleyball program and create a safe, supportive, learning environment
- Work with the Director of Athletics to schedule facilities for practices and competitions
- Observe players during competition and practice to determine the needs for improvement
- Determine game strategy based on the team’s capabilities and individual statistics
- Establish and maintain standards of athletes’ behavior and provide proper supervision of athletes.
- Monitor the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourage student athletes to maintain a high academic standard
- Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury; communicate regularly with the athletic trainer in the rehabilitation of athletes
- Model Christian values and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators
- Act as a team representative and promote the sport by communicating with the news media, VTV, booster club, student council, and other organizations
- Ensure proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms
- Work with the Director of Athletics to develop a policy for awards and submit a list of award winners at the end of the season;
- Nominate all deserving athletes for all-tournament teams, all-district, all-state, and academic all-state
- Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, equipment inventory, and other related records
- Driving team buses to and from practices (if applicable) and games
Other Coaching Duties
- Attend all coaches’ meetings, staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance
- Responsible for scheduling, developing an annual budget and following all TAPPS rules, policies, and procedures
- Responsible for mentoring and evaluating assistant coaches
- Assist with the hiring of assistant coaches
- Manage an off-season workout program
- Assist with the planning and management of the middle school volleyball tournament
- Coordinate summer camp and team camps
- Assist athletes in the recruiting process for playing in college
- Participate in special activities to include Open House, Athletic Awards Ceremony, pep rallies, 9th grade registration, etc
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by Director of Athletics or any other appropriate administrator
Minimum Coaching Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
• Head coaching experience and/or college playing experience is preferred. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, coaches, and students
Work Environment

This position operates within a professional, educational environment and regularly utilizes modern office technology, including computers, phones, printers, and digital communication tools. This role routinely uses sports-related activity equipment. Indoor practice and game locations will be used.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. In this position, the employee will regularly perform duties that require prolonged standing and active movement throughout the campus. Responsibilities include instructing and supervising students; communicating in person, by phone, and electronically; working at a desk or computer workstation as needed; using hands and arms for classroom and instructional tasks; and occasionally lifting or moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds. This role will require driving the team bus to and from practice and games, lifting or carrying sports equipment, and prolonged standing.
