Job Description

Diesel & Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Pacific Ag – Hermiston, Oregon
$30.00–$40.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
Full-Time

Pacific Ag is looking for an experienced Diesel & Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team in Hermiston, Oregon.

This is a hands-on position supporting the trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and machinery that keep our operations moving throughout Northeast Oregon and Southeast Washington. We're looking for someone who takes pride in diagnosing problems correctly, making quality repairs, and keeping equipment safe and dependable.

If you're an experienced diesel or heavy-equipment mechanic who enjoys variety, working independently, and solving problems, we'd like to hear from you.

What You'll Do

  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair diesel trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and related machinery.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, servicing, and scheduled repairs.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and brake systems.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform field repairs when needed.
  • Inspect equipment for safety concerns, wear, damage, and maintenance needs.
  • Identify needed parts and coordinate repairs to help minimize equipment downtime.
  • Perform operational checks following repairs to ensure equipment is functioning safely and properly.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
  • Keep tools, equipment, service vehicles, and work areas clean, organized, and safe.
  • Work closely with drivers, operators, transportation personnel, and management to keep equipment available and operations moving.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone with solid mechanical experience who can troubleshoot problems, exercise good judgment, and work independently.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Two or more years of diesel, heavy-equipment, agricultural-equipment, or similar mechanical experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel engines and mechanical systems.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and brake systems.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and equipment inspections.
  • Ability to read service manuals, diagrams, specifications, and technical information.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to organize work and manage changing repair priorities.
  • Ability to work independently while also being part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record acceptable under Company insurance requirements.
  • CDL is a plus but is not required unless needed for assigned responsibilities.

Relevant technical, vocational, apprenticeship, or military mechanical training is also valued.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with a schedule that is primarily Monday through Friday during normal operations.

Pacific Ag's busiest season generally occurs during harvest, approximately June through September. During this period, additional hours may be required to support operations, including evenings, weekends, and overtime. Occasional after-hours response to equipment breakdowns may also be necessary at other times of the year.

Candidates should be comfortable with seasonal schedule flexibility and understand that keeping equipment operational during harvest is an important part of this position.

Pay & Benefits

Hourly Pay: $30.00–$40.00, depending on experience and qualifications.

Pacific Ag offers eligible employees a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with Company match
  • Life and disability insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Paid holidays
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Scholarship opportunities
  • Employee discounts
  • Additional Company-sponsored benefits and programs

Work Environment

This isn't strictly a shop position. Work may take place in the shop, yard, field, roadside, or other operational locations throughout Northeast Oregon and Southeast Washington.

The position involves hands-on mechanical work and may require bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, working underneath equipment, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Field repairs may be performed outdoors and in varying weather conditions.

Regional travel is required as necessary to service and repair Company vehicles and equipment.

Why Pacific Ag?

Our equipment is essential to our operation, and our mechanics play an important role in keeping it safe, reliable, and working when our teams need it.

This position offers experienced mechanics the opportunity to work on a variety of trucks and heavy equipment, solve real-world mechanical problems, and have a direct impact on the success of our operations.

If you have diesel or heavy-equipment experience and are looking for a position where your mechanical skills, judgment, and ability to solve problems are valued, we encourage you to apply.

Pacific Ag is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Shift/Schedule: Primarily Monday–Friday, day shift. Some early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required based on operational needs, particularly during harvest season (typically June–September).
