Summary
The Dietary Aide assists in the preparation, assembly, and delivery of meals, snacks, and tube feedings in accordance with prescribed diets and facility standards. This role supports resident nutrition, safety, and satisfaction by following established food safety and sanitation procedures, maintaining clean work areas, and collaborating with dietary and nursing staff.
Essential Functions
- Assemble and deliver resident meals, snacks, nourishments, and tube feedings according to prescribed diets and menus.
- Operate and maintain tray lines, workstations, and kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Portion, label, and stock food items, dietary supplies, and equipment at workstations or delivery carts.
- Prepare cold food items and assist with food preparation tasks as assigned.
- Assist with dishroom operations, including scrapping, washing, sanitizing, and sorting dishes and utensils.
- Maintain cleanliness of all kitchen areas, including floors, counters, equipment, and storage areas; follow “clean as you go” procedures.
- Remove trash and garbage, clean and sanitize bins, and report equipment malfunctions promptly.
- Complete required documentation, including trayline checklists, substitution logs, sanitation sheets, and other records as assigned.
- Assist with receiving, storing, and organizing food and supplies.
- Train new employees and provide guidance on departmental procedures and safety practices.
- Follow all safety, sanitation, infection control, and hazardous materials policies and procedures.
- Maintain professional and cooperative interactions with residents, families, visitors, and staff.
- Uphold resident rights, confidentiality, and facility standards of care.
- Complies with all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws, including HIPAA and the Code of Conduct, completing required training and reporting concerns promptly.
- This position is designated as essential to the operations of the organization. Team members in this role may be required to report into work (on-site at the community) during emergencies, inclement weather, or other situations when the organization remains operational.
Physical Demands
- Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions such as lifting and carrying trays or supplies.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift heavier items with assistance.
- Frequently required to kneel, crouch, or reach for cleaning or food preparation tasks.
- Visual acuity and manual dexterity to measure, portion, and assemble food items accurately.
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely.

Work Environment
- Always works indoors in kitchen, dining, and food service areas.
- Frequently exposed to heat, steam, noise, cleaning chemicals, and wet or slippery surfaces.
- Occasionally exposed to odors and high-temperature equipment.
- Works around other kitchen staff, residents, and occasional visitors; interacts courteously and professionally.
- Must follow safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures at all times.
- Rarely works outdoors except when delivering or transporting food supplies.
- Never operates motor vehicles as part of job responsibilities.
Schedule
- Must have open availability.
- No set schedule (shifts or days).
- 7am - 8pm
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
- Experience in the food service industry preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation, and infection control practices in a healthcare setting.
- Ability to follow menus, dietary restrictions, and special resident instructions accurately.
- Skill in operating kitchen and trayline equipment safely and effectively.
- Competence in proper cleaning techniques and maintaining a sanitary work environment.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move food trays, supplies, and equipment safely.
- Strong attention to detail in portioning, labeling, and delivering meals.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to interact with residents, dietary staff, and nursing personnel.
- Dependability, punctuality, and adaptability to changing schedules or priorities.
