Job Description

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience working with healthcare labor metrics, staffing models, or operational performance data.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in hospitals, health systems, or other patient‑care environments.
  • Experience serving in an internal consulting, operational improvement, workforce management, finance, or decision support role requiring interaction with operational leaders.
  • Experience leading projects or initiatives across multiple departments.
  • Familiarity with productivity systems (e.g., LaborLytics, Kronos, Epic).


JOB SUMMARY

The Labor Productivity Analyst supports the organization's mission to deliver high-quality patient care by ensuring labor resources are used efficiently, appropriately, and sustainably. This role analyzes workforce performance across clinical and non-clinical departments, translating complex labor, patient volume, and acuity data into insights that help leaders make informed staffing and operational decisions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Labor & Operational Data Analysis
    • Analyze labor utilization, staffing grids, premium pay trends and productivity benchmarks across inpatient, outpatient, and ancillary departments.
    • Present labor management performance to operational leadership and executive audience and highlight opportunities for improvement.
    • Support labor management software by reconciliation, vendor partnership, and training to develop operational engagement.
  • Healthcare Workflow & Performance Optimization
    • Identify inefficiencies in clinical workflows, patient throughput, and support services that impact labor utilization.
    • Partner with nursing, ancillary services, and department leaders to optimize staffing grids and align labor with patient demand.
    • Support initiatives related to reducing premium labor (overtime and contract labor), improving scheduling practices, and enhancing workforce flexibility.
  • Forecasting, Modeling & Staffing Support
    • Build labor forecasting models in excel that incorporate patient volume trends.
    • Conduct annual labor budgeting by updating excel based staffing grids rounding with operational leadership and communicating to leadership.
    • Develop modeling to evaluate the impact of operational or strategic changes that arise throughout the year.
  • Operational Partnership & Decision Support
    • Develop trusted relationships with operational leaders by actively listening to concerns, understanding operational challenges, and partnering to develop data-driven solutions.
    • Integrate leader feedback with quantitative analysis to validate assumptions, identify root causes, and develop actionable recommendations.
    • Communicate complex analyses clearly and concisely to operational and executive audiences, facilitating productive discussions and influencing decision-making through data-driven insights.

Marginal or Periodic Functions:
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Performs related duties as required.

  • Ability to translate complex data into concise, actionable insights for operational and executive leaders.
  • Strong consultative and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Ability to actively listen, understand operational concerns, and balance qualitative feedback with quantitative analysis.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Self-directed and able to work autonomously while remaining open to feedback and coaching.
  • Demonstrated potential and desire to grow into a leadership role.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT

Hybrid (in-office/remote) role as determined by leadership and occasional on-site meetings at any UTMB campus, utilizing standard office equipment. However, in-person attendance will be required as needed and could be extensive during certain projects. For example, there may be periods when expected to work on-site for a week at a time in any of our locations.
